Dentures / implants question

Rachell1 · 14/02/2023 14:41

Asking on behalf of my mum whose dentist says it is time to start considering dentures as short term fixes are starting to fail.

She isn’t keen on getting dentures, she wants implants but by the looks of things they are hideously expensive.

Are there any other options that she could look into?

Thanks!

Implants are the way to go imho.

I have implants. They are great. I couldn’t bear a denture. I paid £1900 per implant during lockdown.

What if you are terrified of needles and dentists?

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 14/02/2023 19:27

@zippitydoda , then you resign yourself to having all your teeth fall out, or you get a grip. Or try a hypnotist.

Simply put, the only options for missing teeth are 1) accept gap 2) resin bonded bridge 3) implant 4) denture. It sounds like your mum has multiple gaps, so options 1 and 2 are possible. Implants are expensive, and if she has periodontal disease and bone loss, not always possible.

If she needs a lot of teeth relaxing or is close to losing all her dentition, she may want to look at all-on-four or all-on-six. These are a type of implants retained denture, expensive but naturally a lot cheaper than full mouth individual implants (which wouldn’t be an option in this country).

Implants also are the best option prevent bone loss.
