I've got an interview tomorrow and I'm nervous

Going to vocational school to retrain in something so wildly different from anything I've ever done before (aircraft maintenance) and have an interview at the school tomorrow to see if I'm suitable for the course I guess. I haven't had an interview for anything in a very long time and its in my second language (which I'm nowhere near fluent in, intermediate at best) so I am quite nervous and honestly not sure why I've even doing this, I had second thoughts the moment I sent the application in, studying in a language I struggle with will be so hard (though I've been told some allowances can be made for me, writing essays in English for instance, and English is important in the course and this field). But on the other hand I'm fed up of not being qualified to do any job beyond cleaning or shop work and want a different future.

Just want some reassurances please! Or positive tales of retraining in something completely different and it turning out wonderfully.

Well your post is written better than many I read, so I am sure you will be fine. It sounds exciting - good luck! 😊

Sorry I've just realised that the course isn't English! 🙈😂

Aren't you brilliant! Fantastic, the very best of luck. You have nothing to lose by doing the interview but everything to gain in lots of ways. If this doesn't work out keep going. I applaud your bravery. Let us know how it goes.👏

Thanks. I feel sick, which always happens when I'm stressed about anything but also I know norovirus is going round my son's nursery at the moment so I've even more stressed thinking it might be illness sickness instead of stress sickness and I'm going to go there and spread disease to the panel! But DS isn't ill so its pretty unlikely I am.

Well that went fine, the interviewer switched to English almost immediately! Looks like I'll be going back to school in the autumn so I've got 6 months now to work on my language skills. Looks like I don't even have to do the entrance exam either.

@Natsku sorry to resurrect this thread but I found this when searching for aircraft maintenance, I was just wondering how you are finding the course? Are you doing a degree? It sounds like you’re not in the UK? I am early 40s and considering retraining in aircraft maintenance, not sure if it’s completely mad!

Oh I'm enjoying it. Its a steep learning curve when I don't have any mechanical background but its interesting. The theory part is getting quite difficult though, first half of the year wasn't so bad but now we're studying very big modules with a lot to remember for the exams. Its just a year course plus 3 months work placement, not a degree - bog standard European requirement for an A permit.

It took us the whole day today to rivet on one new nutplate onto the spinner head of a propeller Grin but that did involve a lot of riveting practice as we haven't done that much and wanted to get some practice in.
Just before Christmas we did aeroplane engine tests so I got to sit in the pilots seat and run the engine and that was bloody brilliant!

You're not mad at all to consider it, go check out some courses!
