Blow a whistle when you are on the phone.

first of all - ask him what bank he’s from and say you’ll ring the back back?
Tell him to F off?
string him along? What’s my account number? Err let me check, I’ll just get my bag, 5 minutes later, just trying to find it…okay here it is - 012345768 and my sort code is 00-01-02.

🤦🏻‍♀️

Why the fuck not???

Any arsehole wanting to scam money from me, deserves to go fucking deaf with added tintinitus (fuck knows how it's spelt!) With added toothache

Please ring your actual bank, preferably from a different phone. Just in case they do have your details, they can secure your account.

They absolutely don't have your details, it's fishing. If they had your details they'd be able to tell you what bank they're calling from, and they never can.

Namechangingagain111 · 13/02/2023 23:03

Call 159 (make another call first to someone you know to make sure that the scammer is off the line) then select your bank

GladragsAtDawn · 13/02/2023 23:22

Not sure if there's anything you can do, unfortunately. Do ring your bank (get the number online, and as above, use a different phone) to warn them.

One of my elderly relatives always says, "Okay, hang on, I'll just get my details, won't be a moment..." then leaves the phone on the side. They don't ring back.

I had a call and they did - they told me my bank, card number, name and address! A website I’d used (and I’d used very few using that card, and all reputable sites) had obviously been compromised. They called me because they wanted me to give them a code from my mobile so they could use the details 🙄

Daffodilsandtuplips · 13/02/2023 23:29

My DH gets these calls, he hangs up without saying a word then rings our bank, from either my phone or the landline to report phishing activity.

JennieMassie · 13/02/2023 23:30

Just say hold on and play some Rick roll music...

chelle0 · 13/02/2023 23:37

@BlackForestCake

🙄 it may well be, but they could also have her details. Ridiculous advice to just ignore it.

OP, please check with your bank.

Yankydoodledandy · 14/02/2023 00:43

It happened before same spiel they know my bank and name and postcode etc. Reported it to bank they git me to change my password online banking thats all.

I told him...ah thanks will check my account and hung up. I will ring bank tomorrow. I have zilch in it!!!

Next time will tell him nope not git that account anymore hopefully will stop.

Don't tell them anything! They're fishing for info on you, why would you help them?

MintJulia · 14/02/2023 01:50

I've had scam calls claiming to be my bank and BT.

I say I don't discuss accounts over the phone, I only transact by letter and can they please put whatever they have to say, in writing. Then hang up.

Usually works 😊

WhereYouLeftIt · 14/02/2023 01:50

Ah, I love a scam phonecall!

Play with him. Keep him on the line for as long as you can, because whilst he's on the phone to you he can't be calling anyone who might be more gullible than you.

I generally age myself about 20 years, become a little bit deaf so that I have to ask them to repeat themselves, adopt a quavery voice that goes quiet unexpectedly on them, have side conversations with my husband (whether he's there or not) - think 'John! John! Are you going to the shops yet, I need you to get xyz whilst you're there - John!'. I also have to write everything down, now where did I put my pen .... paper ... right, go ahead, son.

You get my gist.

tuvamoodyson · 14/02/2023 05:52

I don’t answer numbers I don’t know. If it’s important, they’ll leave a message.

SolitudeNotLoneliness · 14/02/2023 06:01

When calling your bank if possible try usi g a different line / phone.

There used to be a scam where the scanners somehow stayed on the line and managed to be party to the customer's call to the bank and gain extra security details.

Scams have since moved on but there is still a risk.

Your bank's number should be on the back of your bank card
