Hi has anyone got any tips or templates for CV writing for long career breaks?

Previously in professional role but had to take extended period of due to children having SEN which meant home schooling was the best form of education.

I'm looking to re-enter the workplace but have had a break of 13 years since my last employed role so feel out of my depth!

MTIA.

Just be honest and say....I've had long term caring responsibilities but now in a position to find employment I'm a willing and enthusiastic person, so any skills not already acquired from previous employment, I'm sure will be learnt quickly.
Something along them lines. You can explain further in the interview if they ask. Hope that helps.

Sorry there should be a full stop after employment

Thanks, that does help. They require a full CV though which is the part that is daunting due to the length of time it has been since I have worked.

You can do a skills based CV rather than a work experience based one. That puts all your skills up front, tailor them to the role you're applying for so if it's got project management/communication/picking daisies in the job description use those for your headings.

Then you can list employment after that. It puts the focus on what you can do rather than when you did it, and hopefully doesn't mean they immediately think of your career break.

Put personal details at the top of your CV such as name, address, phone number.
Underneath a short personal profile mentioning things like good communication and you enjoy interacting with other people.
Next -Qualifucations
Work history which I have in a table
And at the bottom of mine I have Excellent references available on request

Yes, skills based is the way to go then a short line in your work history saying family-related career break. No need for a lot of detail- it’s just so they know you were caring for family not doing a 13 stretch in Holloway.

@lifeturnsonadime you didn't say what kind of professional role you did previously, but hopefully you know some employers have back to work schemes, e.g. PWC: pwc.blogs.com/press_room/2016/07/pwc-expands-return-to-work-scheme-to-bring-more-talented-women-back-into-the-workplace.html
