Where are all the raspberries?

I've not been able to get any for a week. I only have access to Waitrose, Asda and the co-op but there are none to be found. I eat them daily and I'm missing them. Frozen won't do. Too soggy. The local greengrocers is extortionate and the quality poor so that's a no-go. I'm in the north west. Has anyone else noticed a shortage? All other fruits seem available. A first world problem I know.

I can't get prepared pineapple easily at the moment. I usually get the big trays in M&S and they haven't had them for ages

I am in France and the only fresh fruit available in my local supermarket is apples, pears, oranges, bananas, clementines/similar and imported mangoes and pineapples.

I buy frozen berries to have with yoghurt but accept that fresh produce is seasonal, though boring at this time of year. However it means we look forward to strawberries in spring, raspberries, melons and nectarines in summer, and plums, figs and apples in autumn.

I have bought fresh raspberries from neighbouring Switzerland in the winter and they were very disappointing - dry and tasteless!

Crikey, am I the only one that doesn’t buy soft fruits in the winter!!

Wheretheskyisblue · 13/02/2023 14:26

I was quite surprised at how flavourful and fragrent the strawberries are at the moment. I would not nomally buy them out of season but gave in to pester power from my 3 year old. I guess coming from morocco they get nice and ripe in the heat.

On the otherhand the raspberries at the moment seem watery and tasteless. Plenty around though in the SE.

I don't either! My mum makes me laugh - she buys the same fruit and veg all year round then moans about how expensive and tasteless it is 🙄

I'm in the SE and haven't noticed this at all. They're my favourite so I buy them reasonably often but the quality is never as good out of season (and not particularly sustainable).

Asda had some on the way back from school this afternoon 😃
