Do you expect hotels interior to be marked and not in great condition

Were in a holiday inn this evening as you can see i can't sleep not because of this reason though.
But I was just wondering what people expect from a room . So we paid £75 including breakfast for a standard room with sofa bed for 2 kids. The hotel entrance and restaurant look lovely the pool is lovely but as soon as you go through the doors to the rooms. Theres paint chips, fading of furniture, holes in the walls, chunks of wood missing from doors, frayes in carpet, cracks in the sink it just seems very generally in need of some tlc and a bit old and rundown. Its pretty clean so can't say anything on that note.
Now I know im not staying at the Ritz so that's why I'm intrigued what would you expect? It doesn't bother me as its 1 night and it wasnt loads of money

Disappointing, but for 75 you are having a room and breakfast for 4. The Cost of cleaning staff and other kitchen staff etc plus laundry is alot. So I would take it on the chin and book something a little more luxurious next time.

Hotel rooms get heavy use. I worked for a hotel once with 175 rooms and we had 2 full time painters. Plus a maintenance manager and we would have still have chipped paint etc.

I do think £75 including breakfast is a good price though.

We have a little cottage Airbnb. We are meticulous about its upkeep and yet a week after painting it we had two families through who managed to take a chunk out of a door, scrape the new paint on the walls, chip the toilet (how HOW?!) and throw coffee down another wall and carpet.

We charge a lot more than that too!

We have to live with it and unfortunately so do our guests. Replacing a toilet and a door because of chips is ridiculous and it looks like we'll have to repaint again soon but I haven't got the energy frankly.

It doesn't stop it being functional

sounds very good value indeed!

frenchnoodle · 13/02/2023 04:12

At that price yes, it's expected for the rooms not to be perfect.

DingDonkey · 13/02/2023 04:15

I'd be disappointed but wouldn't be too annoyed as it's clean and cheap. I wouldn't be going back though and I'd leave a review saying the rooms were a bit run down.

Wakemeup17 · 13/02/2023 04:17

That's more than I would expect for that price.

amylou8 · 13/02/2023 04:25

The going rate just for breakfast in a travel lodge/premier Inn type budget hotel is about £12, so I'd say £75 for a room and 4 breakfasts is excellent value. I'd be expecting it to be clean, but for the rooms and decor to be a bit tired and dated at that price.

garlictwist · 13/02/2023 05:10

That is incredibly cheap. You won't get much for less than that, especially with breakfast. So a few marks wouldn't bother me.

rwalker · 13/02/2023 05:12

At £19 per person for room and breakfast
you’ve got more than value for money

rubberduckiee · 13/02/2023 05:15

If the wear and tear starts affecting cleanliness I would be bothered. If not, I wouldn't mind at all.

rubberduckiee · 13/02/2023 05:17

I also feel like no matter how cheap, hotel chains should be clean, don't know if that's a delusion on my part. So I'd expect an independent dorm/bnb at £20 per night to be a bit dirty but your Holiday Inn room should still be relatively clean. Maybe because at that scale they can afford mass cleaning etc. Maybe that's a ridiculous distinction though!

Luckingfovely · 13/02/2023 05:35

You got what you paid for.

whiteroseredrose · 13/02/2023 06:25

I would want a room to be in good decorative order, but a low price usually indicates what you are getting.

SheilaFentiman · 13/02/2023 06:47

To be fair, OP has said it is pretty clean

Badbudgeter · 13/02/2023 06:54

I’ve worked in hotels and it is expensive to flip a room. Cost of housekeeper, linen, towels, toiletries then 4 breakfasts they won’t be making much out of you. Low prices often mean places can’t afford maintenance/ refurb costs. Hobbling through the winter on limited custom then come summer prices double and you wonder at paying £150 for somewhere a bit crap.

BHRK · 13/02/2023 06:54

Yes that’s every premier inn and holiday inn I’ve ever stayed in. That’s what I expect for the price.
When I’m paying £300+ a night I expect it to be immaculate

DarkForces · 13/02/2023 07:01

£75 for b&b and a pool. That's an incredible bargain. No wonder they can't afford regular painting

NancyJoan · 13/02/2023 07:05

Marks/scuffs on the walls can happen the day after redecorating. I can cope with slightly tired, as long as it’s clean and the door locks properly. And I wouldn’t book somewhere as cheap as that, as I would expect it to be rundown.

watchfulwishes · 13/02/2023 07:29

A cracked basin would bother me but the rest is all decorative. The rooms will get redone on a cycle and you may have just caught this one at the end of that time.

£75 is so cheap, really, when you think of the cost of staff, property/land, and rising costs for fuel/food/goods/services.
