If you have a side sleeper cot, was it worth it? How did you set up your bedroom?

Did you have to move a bedside table to fit it in?

Nope, just had my side table at the top of the bed and arranged my pillows in line with it. This meant I slept a bit further down the bed. The cot was sidecar-ed in front of the bedside table.

Mrsmch123 · 12/02/2023 21:47

We had a next to me tbh we would have been better with a slim line cot as I never put the side down as was worried my duvet would go over him. We just pushed the bed over and slotted it in as we don't have bed side cabinets.

Sucessinthenewyear · 12/02/2023 21:52

In reality for us it was used as a bedside table and to ensure DD couldn’t roll/fall out for bed.

Yes absolutely worth it. The best one was the one I converted myself from a proper cot though. Couldn't fit a bedside table with that one. Then I had a crap one from Amazon that I hated and we now have a babybay maxi which is fine but very annoying to adjust. With these two I've had bedside tables but haven't really been able to use them because the baby tends to use it as a dance table or cat practice spot pushing everything off the edge.

All the purpose built ones are annoying in some way so I would convert if doing it a fourth time (no, lol).

Queenfreak · 12/02/2023 21:54

Honestly- not for me. We ended up bed sharing from around 6 weeks. Then the cot became my bedside table.

The bedside cot just became a very large, expensive mobile phone holder.

Dd would only sleep on me or on the other side of me. Screamed blue murder from day one if she was anywhere near it.

Two and a half years on, she’s still snoring next to me.

Floofyduffypuddy · 12/02/2023 22:06

We had a large Co sleeper cot for dc 2
Best thing I spent money on.

mobear · 12/02/2023 22:12

We had a side sleeper cot but never used the side sleeper function. DS slept well and I was nervous about rolling into him or him rolling into me. On reflection I should have bought a regular cot.

BertieBotts · 12/02/2023 22:15

Agree that you do use the cot as the bedside table 🤣

If you are using the proper cosleeping position (look up cuddle curl) then your duvet will not go on them. Ideally you would not sleep with a duvet at all. However What I did with DC1 was wore warm pyjamas with a button down front, plus a dressing gown which I wore over my top arm. With the cuddle curl, you lie on your side facing them basically in the recovery position.

Duvet tucked behind my back, and over my legs held down by my knees so it would not travel up. Cellular blanket folded into 2 layers over baby and my tummy. This kept us warm, and he was an autumn baby.

I did relax a little as he got older and let the duvet go up to my waist. You are pretty much aware of them even in sleep and I would half wake up and adjust bedding all the time but starting out overcautious is best. I did the same with the younger two but didn't bother with the dressing gown, the duvet kind of goes into a b shape over you behind your back over your legs. It was warm enough. They were summer babies so easier to keep the duvet away while newborn.

somberrrro · 12/02/2023 22:22

Apparently DP and I were both horrible sleepers so I assume that is what I'm in for Grin

The idea of cosleeping makes me very uneasy, being honest, but I do like the idea of the side sleeper. Aargh. I don't want to waste money.

Best thing ever! We got the snuzpod which was fantastic. I kept my bedside table and then had snuzpod in front of that

Thisthattheother1 · 12/02/2023 22:26

I got the halo and loved it. I would not feel safe co sleeping but if I did I wouldn’t take the advice from poster above with duvet and blankets and dressing gowns proper safe sleeping should be tight fitted sheet. Tightly fitted sleep sack for baby and same for mother. That’s it.

Mushroomsandegg · 12/02/2023 22:30

I second the snuzpod! Used it for my oldest and using it now with my 4-month old (although she’ll grow out of it in a few weeks I reckon and then will need to go in a cot). We got it second hand (but bought new mattress) so it wasn’t too much. I feed her in the bed and the just pop her back into it. I also don’t want to co-sleep (bad back!) but she’s still very close to me and it’s easy to keep the duvet away from her.

Twinklenoseblows · 12/02/2023 22:37

I bought one. Baby was having none of it so it because an expensive storage unit for my water bottle, midnight snacks etc. Wish I'd saved my money and gone straight to buying a copy of Sweet Sleep by La Leche League and an Owlet sock to give me the peace or mind I needed to enjoy cosleeping. Once I did that I got soooo much more sleep and we were all a lot happier.

sakura06 · 12/02/2023 22:42

I rented one for my second baby. Absolutely loved it! Meant we could co-sleep safely. First baby had gone inbetween us on top of the duvet as she refused to sleep in a cot...

Milkand2sugarsplease · 12/02/2023 22:53

The next to me looked beautiful in my bedroom all ready for DS. The words "barely used" were useful on the advert when selling it on as I got a good price for it. 🤪

I am worried about my duvet.

Worth every single f*king penny. You don't need to worry about the duvet they have a slight side so that they don't roll out

AreBearsCatholic · 12/02/2023 22:57

Wasn’t worth it for us. Somehow the baby could tell the difference, even if you were touching her. Didn’t even get it out for the second baby, just coslept throughout.

ISaidDontLickTheBin · 12/02/2023 23:05

We had a tutti bambini. I put the bedside table on the far side of it and kept a nappy change caddy on it.

We used the tutti loads with DC1 who was in it till nearly 6 months old. DC2 vetoed it completely!

HiCandles · 12/02/2023 23:10

I had a next 2 me side sleeper which baby slept beautifully in until he got too long at about 6.5 months. I usually slept with the side up but sometimes had it down. I made sure the duvet was pulled right over to husband's side so there was no excess that could make it's way into the cot. I loved it, so useful to have baby right there next to you. Bedside table was small anyway and the cot just went below it, with baby's feet at my head end at first so he was closer to me.

Elodie741 · 12/02/2023 23:13

Another vote for the snuzpod wouldn’t be without it. I have it in front of dressing table and I move my pillows down to the level of the snuzpod. I am hyper aware of my duvet though as I have been concerned I could throw it over baby in my sleep. But as pp says you are hyper aware of your baby even in sleep so I do find myself waking up to check her during night anyway and I tend to face her/make sure duvet is away from edge of bed. I found snuzpod was the tallest one we could find for our bed as we have a tall bed.

spiderlight · 12/02/2023 23:23

We had one - a smaller bedside crib at first, and then a full-sized cot with the side removed. Absolute lifesaver. DS took to it within a couple of nights and we ended up very happily co-sleeping with it for a good couple of years.

Keroppi · 12/02/2023 23:25

Perhaps you could sleep in an oodie with a large cellular bkanket draped over you for extra cosiness? Pillow tucked under the flat bottom sheet. Or a sleeping bag might be useful?
I had the bedside table there witb the next to me just in front of it. Salt lamp for soft lighting and loads of crap spread over the bedsixe table and one of those pockets that tuck under the mattress. I also saw some people on here years ago talk about a satin/cotton sheet laid across your side of the bed and baby's sidecar cot, so when baby falls asleep you can slide them across back into the next to me?

Once they got bigger we took the side off a normal cot and put it up the side of the bed, moving the bedside table as it needed more room.

Otherwise, a floor bed is surprisingly comfortable!

Mooandjeffers · 05/10/2023 13:52

I wondered if anyone had a space saver cot they had managed to side car successfully? It absolutely has to be a space saver 100cm cot. I really want to avoid buying a next to me type cot and a separate space saver cot later on down the line. DS and I co slept for 3 years but I'm really hoping to side car this time for a little extra space, with the knowledge it will probably end up being used as a unnecessarily large bedside table/phone and water holder 🥴🤣
