Railcard help

Hi, I need to buy a family and friends railcard over the counter today before we travel. Does anyone know if this is a quick 1 minute job or if I need to leave more time?

I've bought the tickets but need the railcard, national rail says I can buy over the counter at any staffed station but gives no idea of the process.

Thanks 😊

*one minute

I just applied online and used an existing photo of my from my phone.

Needmorelego · 12/02/2023 09:37

Usually takes 5 minutes.
I have never needed a photo or any ID though. I've had Network Southeast Card annually since the 90s and Family and Friends for a decade - so that's a lot of travelcards.

Railcards not travelcards.

"Leave more time. You me minute is not going to be enough."

I know. I would never leave a minute 😅. I just meant is this a quick 1 minute job or is it a long job if that makes sense.

There is no mention of supplying a photograph on the national rail website when buying over the counter

@NotTooParticular basically you fill in the form (paper form), hand it over, they type the from the form details into the computer, print the card and it's done.
Seriously - 5 minutes tops.

Needmorelego · 12/02/2023 09:42

"type the information from the form I meant to say.

Thanks @Needmorelego

My phone is seriously dodgy. I'm going to get it over the counter and time how long it takes 🤣 I'll update from the train!

Better than my stupid phone crashing or locking me out half way through

The benefit of having the f and f on your phone is that then both you and other person (assuming there is one!) always have it - when we had a paper one we used to mess up…

Update: No photo needed, took exactly 2 minutes and 18 seconds from arriving at the counter to leaving with railcard and receipt in hand. Easy peasy.

Had to fill in name, address and email plus name of second person and sign it.

He printed the card, popped it in a pouch and I paid for it. Easy peasy

It was that easy peasy I seem to have written it twice 🤣
