Get your clothes ready night before.
Prepare your lunch bag and sthg to read for break time if you don't go out for lunch.
Leave home with plenty of time.
You can get Kalms in pharmacy or Savers
Be yourself.
Remember is also the first day ( with amazing you 😊) for the other people.
I have made awesome friends at work in the past.

Smile
Don't talk too much

Write notes of important stuff they tell you…..like where to find files / documents, use systems etc.
the first couple of days are usually taken up with induction stuff, sorting out IT access etc so don’t expect to be too busy straight away.

Smile. Look confident. Say good morning to each person you see. Listen lots, observe people closely.

Congratulations on the new job! I've just started a new job this week as well. So far I've just been doing training, HR docs and finding my way around the system. Haven't done any actual work yet. Remember you don't need to set the world on fire on day one!

Pack your bag today and set your first outfit out tonight so you don't need to think about it in the morning.

Plan your route and give yourself at least half an hour extra. I ended up sitting in Costa near the office for ages, but at least I wasn't stressing about arriving on time.

Take a notebook and pen. Write everything down.

If you've been out of work for a bit then maybe watch some you tube videos on things you haven't used in a while (eg excel)

Maybe not for tomorrow, but for the next few weeks - don't send an email to someone in the sane building - go and see them. Follow up with an email by all means, but use it as a reason to introduce yourself and build your network.

Morning @Jobpanic !

How exciting. Having just started a new job myself 2 months ago, please may I offer:

They hired you so they like you
They hired you because they believe that you can do the job
They have a gap in their organisation and need someone to fill it. Likely that people have been covering the gap and will be happy you are on board so they have less to do
So, they have positive outlook which you can mirror

Everyone (pretty much) has imposter syndrome.

Be friendly, shake hands, introduce yourself to people you meet at the coffee machine, ask who they are and what they do. Ask what the form is for lunch (at desk, in a group ?).
Apologise that you may not remember everyone's names in the first couple of weeks.

Have your 'me pitch' ready. I.e a potted sentence to say who you are, where you came from, what your role is and how exciting it is to be here.

Take notes of key peoples names. Ask for introductions.

Spend time with your boss to confirm exactly what your role actually is and what the actual issues are - it's likely they showed a better picture than reality 😬 ask him/her what success looks like for you and them (you'll probably already know from interview, but confirm anyway). Initially ask for regular meetings /feedback from boss so you can make sure you are on track. Ask them who you need to get close to /emulate / get coaching from.

Find out about internal support such as IT, HR etc. And if there are any communication tools like Teams. Join any social channels they have.

If you are taking this opportunity to reinvent yourself a bit, go for it with confidence.

Most of all relax, concentrate and enjoy the new job. Exciting!

Don't try to change the way things are done until you understand why they're done that way.

SideshowAuntSallly · 12/02/2023 09:14

Congrats on the new job! Smile and say hello. Make notes, don't be embarrassed to ask questions even if they sound stupid to you.

Most of all enjoy it, you've earned it!

Whyisitsososohard · 12/02/2023 11:17

I started a new job recently so I get you! I think it's important to remember you'll feel knackered so have easy dinners etc and plan some treats. Also remember you won't feel this knackered and overwhelmed forever!

Tilllly · 12/02/2023 23:55

Good luck!

Smile
Don't talk too much

Reminds me of Burr’s advice to Hamilton in the musical… “Talk less, smile more” 😁

Tilllly · 14/02/2023 00:04

How did it go?

MuggleMe · 14/02/2023 10:45

And remember that virtually noone takes a new job they can easily do from day 1, it's always a step up or a new challenge. It's in their interests that you succeed, and they chose you. Don't apologise for not knowing things, be breezy and polite about finding out how things work etc.
