London trip advice please - Crystal Palace Park

I am heading to an event at Crystal Palace Park early summer with two teenagers (will be age 15 and 16)

We will be travelling by train and arriving at King's Cross.

We need somewhere to stay. Preferably a Premier Inn/Travelodge type set up as that's what we are all most familiar with (all ND and creatures of habit)

I have mobility issues and can't walk much more than around ten minutes, maybe 15.

Are we better to stay central and make our way out to the park for the event? Or find somewhere to stay near the park? Happy to use over- or under- ground trains if someone can advise on exact stations.

Help!

We will be staying for two nights, and ideally would like to pay no more than £500 (or even £400!) in total. Happy to share a room.

Hi op
Crystal Palace is quite a distance from Kings Cross.
It is more a residential area so there aren't many hotels/b&b. Definitely no premier inn.
Transport links are not the best but there is a train station nearby. However the park is quite big so it depends on which entrance is recommended as to which station is nearest.

Premier Inn at Bromley South. You can get a 227 bus to the park from there.

Or the Travelodge in Beckenham.

I live nearby.

Crystal Palace station is best it’s on the Overground (orange line) or southern rail from London Bridge or London Victoria. Or get the tube to Brixton then the number 3 bus. Go early as it will be very busy there.

Theres a Best Western nearby but not other chains you could walk to.
Otherwise would be airbnbs. I’d personally stay nearby as possible. Getting away afterwards (assuming evening concert) wil be a nightmare whether taxi or public transport. It’s not really suited to big events.

Hmmm, I live near Crystal Palace and there aren't any nice hotels round here really. There is a travel lodge in Penge, just next to Crystal Palace but it looks pretty grotty. Not actually been in it. If you want to stay local, it's probably easier to find decent air b n bs.

If that's not for you, it's easy enough to travel from central London. There are frequent train services to CP from London Bridge Station. They take about 20 mins. Or you can get there on the East London Line, so staying near any of the E London line stations might be a possibility.

No personal affiliation or experience but this is well spoken of

if you have mobility issues then Crystal Palace station is best for the top entrance to the park and Penge West for the bottom.

you should check which entrance you need and also make the organisers aware if you need assistance. I have been to concerts there where folding chairs are banned unless you have special requirements and sort it in advance.

Thank you all so much Flowers
You've given me some great tips to go on.

Not sure which entrance yet. Have emailed the organisers about accessibility, but yet to hear back and most of the information on the website is still from last year, when it was held at a different location 🙄 They obviously don't feel the same urgency I do to get things organised 😂

Thank you again. I will pop back if I think of any other questions ❤️️

Walked past the Travelodge in Beckenham last week and it’s not built yet…

I don't live too far from Crystal Palace (Peckham / East Dulwich) There is a decent pub with rooms in Dulwich Village called The Crown and Greyhound (the one closer to Cp) and then another pub with nice rooms above in Peckham Rye called the Victoria Inn.

Luredbyapomegranate · 12/02/2023 01:13

There’s a pub called Westow House at the top of the park that has rooms and is nice I think. Otherwise there is a basic Best Western.

If you don’t want that I’d say near to Victoria or London Bridge which run main line trains to CP, or somewhere on the East London line. That might be more fun for your teens, but with mobility issues you might prefer to stay in CP - it’s residential but lots of nice bars and restaurants.
