Emirates are well known for their comfort!

@UnicorseTime if you're off to Aus see if Air NZ go to your destination. Not the standard seats, but there are a few rows in economy that are set up with a 'sky couch'. They're in the blocks next to the windows and do cost a little bit to select but nowhere near the cost of premium economy. They're set up so that a sort of footrest thing can be flipped up so the seats have extra space. Discovered this by accident !!

since we all need to sit together.

Does your partner need extra legroom as well?
When DD was little DH paid for extra legroom, and DD and I just sat elsewhere in the plane.

Well, technically, only DS and DH need those seats, not DD and I. However, DS will not accept sitting with DH as they don't get on well!

They don't have to sit next to each other. If your DS is tall enough to need an extra legroom seat could he not sit in a different seat not near your DH? I'm assuming if he is that tall he is a teenager and doesn't need to be with an adult unless he is vulnerable.

Children should be ok to sit in the bulkhead, I think it’s just the emergency aisles they can’t. In regards to a small suitcase you can take one included in the ticket cost if you pay for an extra leg room or an ‘up front’ seat. Again it’s a few pounds more than the standard ‘essentials’ seat but i always go for that ticket option. Or more recently there is the option just to add the large carry on bag regardless of what ticket you have, I’m not sure how much they charge though…

Any of the Middle Eastern airlines are best. We found Qatar particularly good but Emirates are good too

BaruFisher · 12/02/2023 04:56

Sorry that was a reply to the pp who asked about Australia.

bluejelly · 12/02/2023 05:17

Why don't you take the Eurostar to the south of France? Decent legroom, you can get up and walk around and no baggage restrictions. Also, better for the environment

Thanks. We have done but other than the direct routes, you don't get anywhere fast!

He has ADHD so he cannot sit alone. It hasn't been a problem in the past because we always visited faraway places as a family and when I travelled with the DC to nearby places pre-COVID, DS had not started having growth spurts.

I flew Easyjet this week (domestic flights so 90 mins or so). I'm 5'5" and was in a standard seat which was fine for me for that length of time but not exactly spacious and not much elbow room (I was in the middle seat). We did the small bag under the seat option and there was more room than I expected, but to add a case in the overhead lockers would have been about £35 per person.

RampantIvy · 12/02/2023 17:10

Oh that sounds difficult. I guess you just have to suck up buying extra legroom seats for all of you then.

Coffeethrowtrampbitch · 12/02/2023 17:39

Could you try to book 2 aisle and middle seats on opposite sides? Dh and ds swap halfway through so they can each stretch out one leg into the aisle if no one is going past. You and dd can be sitting in the middle seats so dh and ds are not sitting alone together.
We've just done this on a trip to the Canaries on Ryanair with 6 foot plus dh and ds and its worked, but it was only 4 hours and ds is NT so I don't know if it would be a good option for your situation, but I hope you find a solution!
