Decent tasting decaff tea?

RenegadeKeeblerElf · 11/02/2023 10:27

I have to have decaff for my first cup of tea each day sue to medication that I am on. I've realised recently that the brand I've been using is a bit bland and now that I've finished that box I'd like to try something new. Any suggestions? I'll be shopping at Lidl and Teco today, could also pop to Waitrose.

M&S brand. The. Best.

Plumbear2 · 11/02/2023 10:48

PG Tips. Although I've only tried PG tips and Asda own which I disliked.

Agree with Yorkshire Decaf! The only good decaff!

Twinings breakfast tea, or Twinings Everyday. Both are occasionally on offer in Sainsburys so you can stock up.

BCBird · 11/02/2023 11:24

Yorkshire. Can be a bit pricey at the moment. I find it better in soft water areas. I make mine in the cup as live alone. I keep the bags then wen got two used bags put in cup and make decent brew for a third time. .

Another vote for Yorkshire decaff.

Maraudingmarauders · 11/02/2023 11:35

Yorkshire decaf is our reliable dIly (we dont drink caffeine), but I also keep a box of twinings decaf at work. It's more expensive but I think packs a bit more punch. I dont think you can tell the difference. The only thing I miss is the twining extra strong breakfast blend, which had so much beautiful flavour but they don't do a decaf version.

Maraudingmarauders · 11/02/2023 11:35

Dlly = daily

Wonderpoo · 11/02/2023 11:36

Yorkshire is decent. I think some of the decaf smell like fish.

teamonster34 · 11/02/2023 11:37

I have Yorkshire normal tea and I find it is definitely the nicest. I used to buy their decaf version and once I couldn't get it so bought Tesco own make and it is lovely so have stuck to that and is half the price of Yorkshire. I don't like Tesco own brand normal tea though.

decaff for my first cup of tea each day sue to medication

@RenegadeKeeblerElf do you realise that decaf tea/coffee isn’t actually caffeine free? It is greatly reduced but there is still caffeine there so, if it’s something like thyroxine that you need to wait 30 mins after taking or it affects absorption, you may need to check if a small amount will still affect it.

Decaffeinated tea is NOT caffeine-free. The decaffeination process leaves a minute amount of caffeine in the leaf. By law, tea labeled as “decaffeinated” must have less than 2.5 percent of its original caffeine level, which usually equates to less than 2 mg per cup.

TenoringBehind · 11/02/2023 11:51

Waitrose own brand. It’s the only nice one I have found.

highlandcoo · 11/02/2023 12:03

Yorkshire decaff for English breakfast tea, but do try Dragonfly Earl Grey Rooibos. It's lovely. From Waitrose or you can order it on Amazon.

MalevolentHairyEyeball · 11/02/2023 12:05

M&S in the teal green pack. It’s probably made by Yorkshire or someone but it seems nicer that that when I tried both.

It is for thyroxine, but it's not actually dangerous to have caffeine, it just affects the absorption. And tbh by the time I am actually drinking the tea it's been at least 20mins or so since taking the tablets so I don't think the minute amount will make much difference. But thanks for the info, good to know

PG tips decaf. Lovely. Best I've found. Works well with our lovely Scottish water too.

gogohmm · 11/02/2023 12:22

I drink redbush as regular decaf is universally awful. I can't tolerate caffeine unfortunately

Butterflywing · 11/02/2023 12:29

YORKSHIRE!!! Unbelievably good as I didn't think I would be able to drink a normal cup of tea again until I found this, I am so happy!! 😂👏👌

Giggorata · 11/02/2023 12:49

Another vote for Yorkshire, I can even drink it in the morning.

Roominmyhouse · 11/02/2023 12:53

I buy the Sainsbury’s red label and it’s not bad.

I’ve been on thyroxine years and never been told not to have caffeine though!

wateraddict · 11/02/2023 13:00

Yorkshire and Co-op's own are good too. PG Tips and Tetley were not for me!

Daisymay2 · 11/02/2023 13:05

DH says Waitrose decaff. He's tried a few. I prefer to stick with red Bush

everywhichway · 11/02/2023 13:06

I've tried loads - including all those mentioned above. My favourites are Brew tea (v expensive though) and Thompsons.

Horsemad · 11/02/2023 15:45

Tesco decaff is lovely.

RenegadeKeeblerElf · 13/02/2023 10:33

I ended up buying the Yorkshire as it was on Clubcard prices and it is quite nice. More flavourful than the cheapy one I had before, but I think I might try the PG next time just to compare.
