Have you ever had your eyelashes dyed at a salon ? Was it good ?

Did it hurt

I’m thinking if doing it as I’ve got bad dry eye syndrome
and want to avoid mascara and eye make up
was thinking I could use some drops in my eyes before I go to Linda protect my eyes a bit ?

how long does it take to dye and how long does it last ?

Yes, and I was disappointed. It made hardly any difference. Wouldn’t waste my money again.

You must do a patch test 24hrs beforehand.

They'll put vaseline around your eye (to keep dye off your skin) and you must keep your eyes closed throughout (so dye doesn't get in your eyes). Once they've applied the dye, you wait for 10-15 mins. They wipe off the excess, you can then open your eyes and give them a wipe yourself.

Lasts about 2 weeks.

I found it quite sensitive so not sure how you'd go if you have dry eyes. Maybe worth asking the beauty therapist first? I had mine tinted and lifted but stopped doing it now as the lashes seemed to clump together after a while and I didn't like how it looked! How about clear mascara for sensitive eyes? If there is such a thing.

I’ve tried twice and both times it was a disaster. Imperceptible difference but somehow made my dark circles look worse. And got dye in my eye the second time.

I wouldn’t bother.

QueenMabs · 11/02/2023 09:13

I had LVL which is a lift and tint and a really common treatment in salons

It's not just a tint it's also a volume treatment.

It took an hour as the curl the lashes and set them with "perm lotion"

As well as tint them. It took about 45 minutes.

It was boring and annoying having eyes shut for 1 hour!

HunterHearstHelmsley · 11/02/2023 09:14

I've got quite sensitive eyes and have my lashes dyed once a month. It's not the same effect as mascara, I have it done so I don't have to put mascara on my bottom lashes as I get it everywhere. I don't really enjoy having them dyed but it's not awful.

Buymyselfflowers · 11/02/2023 09:15

No it hardly made any difference at all. Complete waste of money.

I’ve also tried it myself with the Eyelure kits and that was rubbish as well.

Maybe if you already have long thick lashes it’s ok but it didn’t work on mine.

TroysMammy · 11/02/2023 09:17

I had it done years ago and it was horrific only because I realised my eye phobia was worse than I thought. I could have scratched my eyes out and when the beautician asked if I would like some eyedrops I literally screamed no at her.

I can put makeup on my own eyes, although I get panicky if I have a hair or eyelash in my eye. But it's a no no for someone doing things to my eyes or seeing things being done to other people's eyes or people putting in their own eyedrops. I'd be hysterical if I had to use eyedrops.

I can't look at pictures of eggs either as they look like eyeballs but I can do things and eat eggs myself.

Attictroll · 11/02/2023 09:18

I did it once and had a long conversation before had about how long I needed it to last and worked well. I also pre a holiday tried a home dye lit and was ok for a week or so which was ok as that was as long as I needed it for really as it was for an activity holiday where I had to pack light

TroysMammy · 11/02/2023 09:18

I can just about tolerate an optician's appointment and I'd have glasses over contact lenses.

Yutes · 11/02/2023 09:19

I’m found it really nipped my eye and hardly looked any different.

Motnight · 11/02/2023 09:20

I had my eyelashes dyed recently for the first time. It stung. I won't get them done again, I could hardly see any difference.

BettyBoo123456 · 11/02/2023 09:20

I have dry sensitive eyes and dark short lashes it was an ok experience but didn’t really seem to last that long or make that much of a noticeable difference so on me the effect was better than nothing for a short time but nowhere near as good as mascara.

I think if you have long paler lashes you might get more benefit from the experience.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 11/02/2023 09:25

Those saying it didn't work possibly have dark eyelashes? Mine are quite fair at the ends and can be rather invisible & make me look a bit featureless. (I'm a pale redhead.)

The dye shows their full length and gives me more definition when I'm not wearing mascara. Agree that dye doesn't fully replace mascara, as it doesn't thicken your lashes.

Noneedtobemean · 11/02/2023 09:39

I dye my daughters eyelashes as hers are white. This is at her request, she is a teen but too young for a salon to do them.

We use Refectocil Sensitive. It is really quick. You put the colour gel on and leave it for 2 minutes, then wipe it off. Then put the developer gel on and leave it for 1 minute. Then wipe off with warm water on a cotton pad and that is it. It lasts about 4-5 weeks before she needs it doing again.

Also, the silicone protection pads are easier to use than the paper ones.

Icecreamistoocold · 11/02/2023 09:55

I have dry eyes and have it done regularly. It’s great and I love not having to put on mascara.

Oblomov23 · 11/02/2023 10:03

I've been having it done occasionally, for over 30 years. It makes a difference to mine and people notice and comment when I've had it done, but I do have very long curly eyelashes. It doesn't sting and lasts at least a month.

ArianahX · 11/02/2023 11:47

@Noneedtobemean sounds like something I could use as my lashes are blonde & I don't always have time for mascara!

ArianahX · 11/02/2023 11:50

Sorry @Noneedtobemean I meant to ask where do you buy it from?

lurkingfromhome · 11/02/2023 11:51

It barely makes any difference usually because unlike mascara, it’s not adding any volume or length to your lashes. It literally is only changing their colour.
So if your eyelashes are already dark it won’t do anything very much. I guess if you have fair lashes you will see a difference but it still won’t be anything like just whacking on a coat of mascara.

Meadowfly · 11/02/2023 11:56

I have fair eyelashes and it makes a big difference, especially on the lower lashes. I take good for holidays if you are going to be active, swimming etc.

FeelinSpendy · 11/02/2023 11:59

I’ve had it done a few times. I’ve got very pale lashes so it makes a difference (although not as much as mascara) and makes me look a little more alive when I’m not wearing makeup.
It takes about 15 mins, can sting a little at the end, and lasts 2-4 weeks depending on how quickly you shed your lashes (lasts 2-3 weeks for me usually).
I pay £8 but the going rate in a ‘fancier’ salon seems to be about £15 which wouldn’t be worth it for me.
I’d like to try a home kit but am worried about getting it in my eyes.

MalevolentHairyEyeball · 11/02/2023 12:02

Mmm you’d think so re the light/dark eyelash thing but mine are really long and fair (so I look like I’m eyelash-less without mascara but like I’m wearing falsies with a good thickening one)

The dye barely took so it really made so little difference I needed mascara anyway.

popandchoc · 11/02/2023 12:03

I have mine done and love it . Means I don’t have to wear mascara . My eyelashes are quite fair so makes them look much longer .
doesn’t hurt at all .

Noneedtobemean · 11/02/2023 12:03

I ordered from luxplus.co.uk, I did the free 1 month membership, then cancelled.
You can also get it from Amazon, makeup.uk or a few other online companies.

Just make sure that both the colour gel and the developer are from the sensitive range. It won't work if you mix it with the standard range.

I've done my daughters lashes twice. I think there is enough left to do them another 10-15 times. So it really is cost effective, compared to having them done in a salon.
