Apply for a zero hours contract after long term sickness?

Been out of paid employment for several years - been studying in that time (degree) and then off uni long term sick (complex trauma and grief) . Last time I had a paid job was 2017.

I’m only at uni twice a week as part repeating a year, four hours on a Monday and two on a Tuesday. I have got other commitments - I’m doing a lot of voluntary stuff for uni and thoroughly enjoying myself with that; I like having the responsibility again .

Uni course is vocational (AHP) and would hopefully lead to an NHS career next year.

I’m not very physically fit and I’m still on a waiting list for complex trauma treatment, I’ve got some of the way by myself but not fully recovered .

NHS are looking for bank band 2 staff … I finish uni full time for summer in seven weeks - and to be honest I’m screwed for money and can’t spend the next six months doing nothing .

I did band 2 for three years . Left in 2017 . Medical/surgical unit with attached surgical HDU .

Have spoken to recruitment who are saying there’s no minimum shift requirement, it would be a zero hours contract - but said there’s usually no trouble getting shifts . I’d be happy to do nights and weekends and short notice …

Would I be daft to apply now with a view to trying to pick up half shifts in a couple of months time?

I’m worried my lack of physical fitness would be a big problem but I can work on that in the next couple of months …
