Has anyone had this? I’m considering it but wondered if anyone has any recommendations

will do some research over the weekend.

Not me personally but my sister did about 15 or so years ago now and it's the best thing she ever did!
Good luck 😀

I had my heart set in this, saved some money and then went to see a surgeon recommend by two colleagues. Unfortunately, no technique would be suitable for my eyes, so obviously, I havn't had anything done.

The surgery did some very extensive examinations of my eyes and explained the reasons my eyes were unsuitable for the various forms of corrective surgery. Although disappointing, I appreciated their honesty.

I went to see James Ball at the Custom Vision Clinic near Wetherby.

I had it done in December and it's been life changing. The clarity with which I can now see blows my mind!

FindingMeno · 10/02/2023 18:08

I had it done probably about 17 years ago.
Life changing!
I think it was vision express.

must be pretty good to be able to ditch all the paraphernalia involved with glasses and lenses!

I had it done must be 23/24 years
I was very short sighted so it was life changing.

I had corrective surgery about 18 months ago. Very shortsighted (-15) with astigmatism. It was cataract surgery basically. My general vision is now excellent. I still need reading glasses but that was fine by me. No glasses needed for anything else. They did each eye one month apart and I just wore a contact lens in the uncorrected eye. The result was almost instant. Pretty amazing really.

Really? Gosh, that's interesting - I'm not as short-sighted as you, but was told I was unsuitable because of astigmatism.

May I ask who you used? Please do DM if you'd prefer.

I thought the same about astigmatism but I guess it’s based on individual assessments

I had mine done at Moorfields 15 years ago. Pleased I did it but it was really quite uncomfortable for the first month and, having hit my 40s, my near sight has deteriorated (and one of my eyes for long sight).

Ostryga · 11/02/2023 13:20

I looked into this until someone said there’s a reason all of the drs who perform the surgery wear glasses! And it put me right off. So contacts it is.

CampervanKween · 11/02/2023 13:22

I had it done at Manchester Eye Hospital about 15 years ago. Life changing. Best thing I ever did. I still have perfect vision in my mid 50s. I was very short sighted with astigmatism and had real problems driving at night. All that was sorted. Was delighted with it.

CampervanKween · 11/02/2023 13:27

Also just googled about the doctors and 62% have had it done themselves. So that's not strictly true.

Mischance · 11/02/2023 13:37

I think it depends what surgery you want: laser or basically lens removal and replacement. I had the latter (because of cataracts) - basically they take out your lenses and insert new ones. I opted for simply distance vision to be installed, and chose to have glasses to correct the astigmatism and accommodate reading. But I could have had more complicated lenses installed that would have removed the needed for glasses had it not been for other eye problems that I also have (epi-retinal membranes and other stuff).

dazzlingdeborahrose · 11/02/2023 13:40

@AffIt I used Sight for Eyes. They are based at Sunderland Eye Infirmary. Astigmatism in both eyes but quite severe in the left. They could correct the astigmatism to a point and sort my general vision. I've been very happy with the result.

dazzlingdeborahrose · 11/02/2023 13:43

@AffIt Sorry. I should have said that I was unsuitable for laser or lasik. So I had lens replacement. It took about 15 minutes for each eye.
