Help me 9 month old medical

Hi sorry posting here for traffic, we had norovirus at the weekend was dreadful but me and DH recovered after 3 days. DS 9 months has still got very bad diarhea. Very watery orange and has what looks like jelly in it (sorry for tmi) it goes up his back everytime as it's so watery. He is very irritable aswell. He's not taking extra fluid (water) from me when I try but he is taking extra milk. He was breastfed until a month ago when I weaned him onto formula as I'm going back to work. He's taking the bottle really well and is on kendamil. I wondered if anyone can help me if it's a cows milk intolerance that took a while to pop up. Or it's just he hasn't recovered from the norovirus at the weekend. He eats okish at meal times. I've messaged my drs I can't get through on phone and they said its a 5-6 day wait for them to reply. I don't know what to do in the mean time. Thanks.

I'd probably ring 111 at his age to be honest. Just for reassurance that the right things are being done. You're more limited as to what you can do to help at this age. They might be able to get you an out of hours appt soon.

Hope he is on the mend soon.

Always ring 111 if you can’t get through to your GP and you are concerned about your baby.

Definitely call 111 or gp if you are concerned. Some children can get a temporary lactose intolerance after a bad gastro bug and can take a few weeks to get back to normal.

Norovirus can cause a temporary dairy intolerance with children. When my DD had her 1st bug and I rang the Dr in a panic after a few days, we were advised no cows milk and no yoghurts and she got better very quickly after that. She seemed fine with cheese.

Eatentoomanyroses · 10/02/2023 13:23

@KY2021 is quite correct. Diarrhoea can last ages in babies after stomach bugs even after the actual bug is gone.

Oh wow I didn't know that, I thought it was weird the intolerance popped up now. He seems in such pain his poor tummy. He's got an appt at 230 I think the drs must have put him at priority when they saw his age. He's just fallen asleep. He's normally such a happy baby but has just been crying almost non stop all week.

How did you get on @Triedtodoagoodthing ? Well done for getting a slot.

I'd be tempted to try lactose free. Or add Lactase to milk. Mine both (still) need a few days dairy free after a stomach bug (as do I TBF). Lactose intolerance/dairy intolerance is pretty common after an upset stomach.

Triedtodoagoodthing · 11/02/2023 05:55

Dr gave him a full check up and told me he doesn't think it's a dairy intolerance as Ds doesn't have any rashes/difficulty breathing or vomiting. Just the watery diarhea. Dr thinks he just still has the virus and to give it 2 weeks if he's still got diarhea they will then explore the dairy intolerance route. I think though he does have it just not to a high level. Just to be on safe side I've not given him any dairy only his formula.
