How to apply for a higher paid job

I hope you ladies can help me. I currently work in a school as a finance manager, I earn around £30k. I have only ever worked in the public sector and started off in admin. I have a degree in business and an AAT certificate, and many years experience of finance. I am also starting my SCCA soon

I am wanting to apply for higher paid jobs, up to £100k and I was just wanting to know how I find these jobs, where do I look? Can I get paid this amount or do I need more experience. Please help me, thank you!

I think you need to be realistic here. This is my industry and I’m on that kind of level salary, but there have been several years and many many steps since I was on £30K. A newly qualified Chartered salary you’d be looking at £50-55K in London but you’d still need to have the work experience to back it up.

I’d politely suggest you need to do quite a bit more research into the market.

You may have to move up in stages, acquiring experience for your CV on the way. I'd take a look at the sort of role you want, which skills and experience they're asking for, and where you may need to be stronger. Then focus on getting a role where you build up one of those areas, and so on.

These sorts of roles are very competitive, and recruiters will likely filter out anyone who hasn't had a very similar role before. Candidates often overestimate how far transferrable skills will get them, and underestimate how risk averse employers can be.

Speaking to someone in the sort of role you ultimately want to get would also be useful I think. What career path did they take, what sort of skills are important etc.

Good luck OP, it's good to have a Master Plan!

@DoubleHelix79 thank you so much! that is very helpful. Most of the jobs I have looked at require the person to be qualified so that's why I have decided to start ACCA, I'm hoping it won't take too long and won't be too much of a slog.

I think I do need to get out there and start networking, thanks for your help.
