I expect she will be called Queen Catherine but she will actually be Queen Consort for all the reasons already given above.

Yes but no one is saying that the title is incorrect - what's unusual is that the style is hitherto unused, it's just come in for Camilla with no acknowledgment of why.

I think adding 'consort" to Camilla's official title has more to do with distinguishing her from the late Queen than it has anything to do with Diana. Camilla is the Queen, but for 70 years Elizabeth was the Queen. I think in time consort will be dropped from Camilla's title.

I completely agree with this.

I mean, Queen Mary and Queen Alexandra were both Queen Mother, but it wasn’t used. With QEQM it was used to distinguish between her and her daughter.

This is exactly the same.

If when QEII died the BBC had announced that “King Charles will return to London accompanied by the Queen” people would have assumed they were talking about his mother’s body.

Once people get used to the fact that HM The Queen = Camilla the consort bit will drop from use.

Aye there have been umpteen queens consort, but have any of them been known as Queen Consort and not Queen Firstname? Do we really think that however many years hence Kate will be Queen Consort and not Queen Catherine?

Probably not,but by that time ,the last reigning Queen will.have been dead for a sufficient ( I presume)amount of time
for it not to matter

I've noticed that the British press tend to call her Queen Consort but the American press call her Queen Camilla.

Prince Albert was known as Prince Consort… was Philip not Prince Consort? Or just a consort? I don’t get that.

He turned the title down. The difference between him and Albert was that Albert was very much involved in the day to day business of running the monarchy - effectively it was a joint effort between him and Victoria - he believed that she was very much in need of his help and guidance and support. Philip wasn't part of the daily functioning in the same way - he supported HM but also had his own interests and projects.

Interestingly, Philip wasn't Prince of anything between 1947 when he renounced his Greek and Danish titles and 1957 when the Queen made him a Prince of the United Kingdom.

Hello magazine has already dropped 'consort' so I think it will only be a matter of time. We could probably guess the order in which publications move to Queen Camilla. Probably The Express next.
