I have just received this message from the school head and it has made me very afraid if what could possibly of happened. Has anyone ever had a message like this from a school? What could it be? Many thanks.

Dear Parents, due to a serious incident I am holding an emergency meeting in the school hall for Year 6 Parents on Friday 10/2/23 at 3.30pm. I expect all parents to attend.

Nipping it in the bud??? What, it won't make a blind bit of difference summoning parents to a meeting with 24 hours notice.
I agree.
How does this head think we deal with much more serious incidents in secondary? We sure don't summon 250 sets of parents to school for a meeting because 6 pupils sent something on social media.

The OP's head has been very dramatic and has likely lost the respect of parents, who would be generally supportive and understandably thought this sort of meeting and communication was for a serious issue.

Police can be involved as in informed. Doesn't mean they'll do anything about kids swearing online late night. The head has maybe been over promoted. Needs more training. We're in a very naice area, head has the vapours or is defensive. Calls in police, senco regularly. The parents have decided she's a loon now. I've friends teachers in not so naice areas. She honestly couldn't cope as a teacher let alone head.

I think heads should maybe swap places sometimes see how the other half lives.

I don’t think it’s dramatic, I work in secondary and it’s awful with online bullying, inappropriate images, irresponsible social media! Nipping it in the bud by being so firm it’s a good thing.

I think the way it was done was dramatic. No need to call a short notice meeting. A normal evening meeting a week or so after half term would have done the job adequately. We've had similar at secondary for drugs.

I've often thought this about teachers generally. Although I think they adapt very quickly to their "normal" - eg when I was at school one of our teachers was always going on about what an awful lot we were. She'd taught at a inner city secondary in Manchester and we were a very well behaved girls' grammar school who did nothing worse than hand homework in late (or not at all) from time to time. We must have been the easiest to teach, really.

Yes I agree, I really meant making a big deal of it was possibly good to shock the pupils a bit and take it seriously, but yes the short notice 3pm meeting was too much and inconvenient. I also don’t agree with them saying that all parents are expected to attend.

I think the kids are probably laughing their heads off at the over reaction and wondering if this was the response to a bit of on line swearing. What else could they do to get a bigger reaction.
