Doctors’ Blood Pressure Machine

My GP has a fancy new blood pressure machine in the waiting room. I had a text today to ask me to go in and do 3 readings on it.
However, I need a large cuff as I have fat/muscular arms. I have always needed the large cuff. The machine has a standard one. I have seen it, and there is no large cuff.
The receptionist is insistent that I the standard cuff will be enough, and I know it won’t. I don’t want to go in in front for strangers to be pressing buttons and farting about only for the machine to not work. The thought of it puts my blood pressure up! There is no way it will work.
Anyone else had the same problem?

You could try the pharmacy.

If the cuff is the wrong size the readings won’t be accurate so if they cannot provide a large cuff just tell them you can’t use the machine .

I need the large cuff the standard always increases my BP as it hurts! Say no and hold your ground

We have this machine at our GP surgery. It actually measures BP at the wrist if I remember correctly.

The blood pressure machine at my GP surgery takes a reading from the wrist. If it's the same machine you'll be fine.

Thanks, I hadn’t realised pharmacies do them as I don’t often go in them. I’ll ring around and see if I can find a wrist one.

And will also check what machine they have at the GP. Last time I was there it was a cuff type and an elderly lady was struggling to use the machine on her own.

Our GP has one in the reception area but it’s one where you put your arm through a hole so unless you have really big arms that don’t go in the hole it’s fine . It also means it’s really easy to use , I’ve seen all ages using it . We have a wrist one at home but I thought they always read a bit low .

Thanks @Floralnomad i phoned them today to ask if it was a wrist one and they told me they are putting in a whole arm machine next week, so should be ok looking at photos of them.
