HELP!! I'm about to start claiming and done all the assessments etc. I've seen stuff saying your payments can be affected as to when you are paid? All so new and confusing to me. Think i know what im entitled to going by entitledto but i suppose i wont know until a few weeks.

They will assess your claim and it could be a few weeks. You might also be called for an interview. If you are experiencing hardship before your claim is awarded, see if your local authority have a discretionary financial help scheme and try to apply - paperwork such as wage slip may be required.

Sorry i didnt word it well. I meant can it be affected because of what date im paid from my employer?

Yes you are right, here is the government website which talks about it

www.gov.uk/government/publications/universal-credit-different-earning-patterns-and-your-payments/universal-credit-different-earning-patterns-and-your-payments-payment-cycles#if-youre-paid-every-2-weeks

How often are you paid? If monthly I would try to apply for UC in the middle of two pay dates.

turtle24 · 07/02/2023 14:15

Thanks. I get paid at the end of the month but the date changes. Can i ask for when i want UC to be paid?? I applied yesterday and it says first payment would be around 12th March so thats good??

Yes, it can.

Your assessment period will be the same dates every month ie the 10th to the 9th next month and how often you are paid will affect the amount of UC you receive.

If you are paid monthly then one payday will be taken into account.
If you are paid 4 weekly then one month a year you will have two paydays so will receive less UC that month.
If you are paid weekly then there will be 5 assessment periods in a year when you get paid 5 times and you will get less universal credit than the months where you are paid 4 times.
