Need opinions please...... Is £35 per child totally approx £1000+ for a class leaving party a bit excessive? Dont hurl abuse at me though....for the moment I am numbed to an opinion.

Thanks everyone. Im not involved with organsing it I am just sat watching the demands for the money and wondering if there is actually a cost of living crisis or have i been imagining it?

Are you the OP? Why the name change?

name change because the whole thing is toxic and I dont want to be recognised. anyone who has had a differing opinion so far has been shut down.

Ridiculously expensive.
Puts unnecessary pressure on families.

If this is being organised by PTA I'd get the school involved.
If this is being independently organised by a cohort of parents, I'd still get the school involved.

DD's school did a camp out on school grounds, with a BBQ and games.

MargaretThursday · 07/02/2023 15:44

Yes. Way too much. They don't need too much. Do a BBQ and disco and they'll have just as much fun.

JennyDarlingRIP · 07/02/2023 15:46

What's the demographic of the school like? What does it include (if it includes the hoody that's not as bad)? If it excludes anyone and that can't be covered by the pta it's too much.

PuttingDownRoots · 07/02/2023 15:48

DDs cost a fiver, including hoody and leavers book.

The PTA works in very mysterious ways at her school... there are multiple events each year that are completely free to the kids, or a very small cost. No idea where the money comes from!

Jesus christ

Lyricallie · 07/02/2023 15:49

Expensive I think especially for primary school. It’s not like they’re going to a hotel with a sit down meal. However I would wait and see what was included before I decided.

bellsbuss · 07/02/2023 16:05

We paid this 4 years ago plus £20 for the hoody. The £35 was for party bus hire, buffet, Dj and Photo Booth.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 07/02/2023 16:20

ours was I think £20.00 each.
The biggest cost was venue hire - school weren't feeling it, so didn't let us use school premises. I think that got them a photo booth, decorations, food, drinks and a DJ.

IMO just a DJ, drinks, and sweets would have been fine, and would have made the entry cheaper, but others felt differently.

With ours I contacted the pta and told them that if anyone couldn't pay, that I would pay, anonymously, for them. They messaged me back to say don't worry, the pta were planning on covering that if it happened. All the y6s were there, so I was pleased about that.

Thats so kind. My fear is those that cannot afford it will be too proud to say anything as it isnt being organised by the school.

DappledThings · 07/02/2023 17:23

It is news to me that there is any cost to the families for a year 6 event. We had a disco in the school hall in my time. This is a good heads up for me in 4 years I will have to deal with this stuff.

£35 sounds wildly excessive to me.

Badbudgeter · 07/02/2023 17:27

I think ours was about that. They went off to a trampoline park and then to Pizza Hut. PPG bought the hoodies. Honestly by the time I pay for petrol that’s what it costs, no? PPG would cover those who were struggling to pay.

BooksAndHooks · 07/02/2023 17:28

Ours was about that plus £20 for hoodie. I think parents paid £20 towards party and the PTA made a contribution. The year sixes did some toy sales and bake sales to raise the rest.

Teeshirt · 07/02/2023 17:33

Sounds a lot to me. My DC had a disco in the school hall. There wasn’t a hoodie. That’s a secondary school thing where I am.

Dacadactyl · 07/02/2023 17:43

35 pounds seems absolutely fine to me.

I'd start a fund saying people can pay 7.50 a month or whatever for those rhay are struggling. 5 years ago we paid 25 for DDs leavers party so 35 seems alright to me.

monkeysmum21 · 26/02/2023 20:52

If the kids are having a residential trip, then I think all this fuss about Leaver’s Party it’s unnecessary.
There are so many parents that “they just want the best for their kids” and try to organise all these over the top parties!
