Kit needed for concealing cables in chimney breast for TV mounted to wall.

Please can anyone help this simpleton.

We want our TV mounted on our chimney breast wall. Its a solid wall and we are getting a handyman on Friday to do the channelling out of the chimney breast for us amongst other jobs on Friday.
The following week we are having all our walls reskimmed including the chimney breast.
There's currently no stove or working fire in chimney though this is something we may consider for future.

My question is apart for a bracket for the TV to hang from what kit do we need to buy for the burying of these cables in the channelled out section of the wall?

For info we will have 3 cables we need feeding through; a TV aerial cable, the TV power cable and a HDMI cable to run from the TV to the x-box. The power supply is from the double socket in the alcove to the left of the chimney breast at skirting board height.

Please can someone spoon feed me exactly what we need (with links to products if possible). I assume at very least there will be some tube or cable cover to protect the cables in the wall from the new plaster. I thought I also saw something about a 'back box'?

I would be ever so grateful as I'm pretty much clueless.

We have ours in trunking that we've painted the same colour as the wall. You need to sand the trucking to get the surface rough enough for the paint to stick.

Thanks though definitely looking to get the cables buried in the chimney breast. Just need to know if I need to facilitate this, I think I will need some sort of trunking inside the chanel then be plaster over this.

We’ve just had ours done and they have used some sort of ‘channelling’ in the wall that the wires drop through and then plastered over it

Actually I lied, they created a channel and have fed an hdmi and other cable into it, secured it with some sort of grey adhesive filler, and then plastered over it

(ignore my weird ET finger)

Thanks. What's the metal casing thing? Do you know it's name?

The metal casing in my picture is the back box of a plug socket. They dug a channel out of the existing wall to run the cables, secured them with whatever that grey stuff is that I’m pointing to, then have plastered over them

@velvetglow

Just Google "tv cable trunking"

You do need this cos if you ever need to change a cable and it hasn't been used you've got problems.

velvetglow · 06/02/2023 21:19

But can the trunking get placed in the channel and then plastered over so it's all flush? Or does it just sit on surface of wall?

Yes. Trunking put in the chasing, (channeling), in the chimney breast and then plastered over.

BUT...

You need to think about where the cables, especially the power cable, are going to exit the trunking.

If your handyman is any good they should be able to advise. If not you may need an electrian.
