Cotswolds at this time of year ?

It will be just me and dh for two nights wahooooo 🥳🥳

Home is Manchester. Our default getaway is always London but we have done that alone several times now and just wondering if we should do something different .

Cotswolds any good for this time of year ? I've just always wanted to go there. But we could save that for summer I guess with the dc.

Any ideas most welcome !

Leave it till the summer or Easter when weathers warmer.

SparkleFromWithin · 06/02/2023 20:03

@Slobbet hmmm you're probably
right.

Reccomendations for elsewhere then, anyone ?

Really? Providing it's dry I would think it was a good time to visit. Depends what you want to do with your time there.

ithoughtisawapuddycat · 06/02/2023 20:07

As long as it's dry it's fabulous any time of year. Cirencester is beautiful and the Saturday market is on year round. It's a good place to base yourself as so many amazing places to visit within 30 mins drive.

stickybear · 06/02/2023 20:07

There's a lot of variety in the Cotswolds. You could stay in / near Stratford, Cheltenham or Cirencester, then you'd have things to do if the weather was bad, but still be close to lovely countryside, walks etc if it's good? Stow is lovely too and has some nice shops and cosy pubs

JimnJoyce · 06/02/2023 20:14

Broadway is gorgeous, lovely shops and eateries too. Its also on the steam train route

I found a far flung yurt in the middle of nowhere which I'd love to do but only when it's warmer!

Just got back from a weekend in a Cotswold cottage. Lovely weather, lovely pubs, lovely walking. Why not?

BadHabitsGoodFun · 07/02/2023 07:40

Cotswolds is MUCH nicer this time of year - summer is hell as absolutely rammed everywhere. Go for it!

123ZYX · 07/02/2023 07:43

Cirencester is nice and there's a Roman villa not far away (chedworth) that we like to visit.

Also, Bourton on the water has a few touristy things to do and will be much quieter this time of year.

Iguanainanigloo · 07/02/2023 07:43

It's lovely here at the moment ☺️ cold, but I think it is most places! Bourton on the Water is lovely, and isn't the tourist trap hell at this time of year, that it can become in the height of summer.

CalistoNoSolo · 07/02/2023 07:47

You'll have a lovely break. There are fab walks, and loads to do. Colesbourne snowdrops, westonbirt arboretum, cirencester museum, walking along the ridgeway, lovely market towns and some great pubs for lunch or dinner. No idea why a PP said not to visit now, it's much nicer out of season.

Cupcakequeen75 · 07/02/2023 07:47

We live in the Cotswolds and it is great anytime of the year.
At the moment it is cold but very dry and I am having lovely long walks with the dog everyday without having to bath him when we get home. 😆

Agree about Cirencester, one of our favourite towns.
Lovely walks (and views) around Broadway Tower.

MyFlagMeansIceCream · 07/02/2023 07:48

Broadway is lovely. Can concur that it is fucking freezing at the moment, I am just about to go and attempt to hack the ice off my car...

Icequeen01 · 07/02/2023 08:10

I would go in a heartbeat. I went in September a couple of years ago and as lovely as it was I swore to myself I would go back again earlier in the year when there were not so many people.

Totally agree that Broadway and Bourton on the Water are gorgeous. We stayed in Stow on the Wold which was also lovely. The Slaughters are also very pretty.

Whiskers4 · 07/02/2023 08:43

Anywhere is going to be cold this time of year. Depending on how long you have, Cheltenham as a base is good and there are great views from Cleeve Hill. Also Pittville Park and Pump Rooms nice was a potter. I live right on edge of Cotswolds and our go toplaces are Bourton on the Water, Lower Slaughter (Guiting Power nice to drive through uf enroute) and Broadway. If you want a small market town then Cirencester, possibly Chipping Norton although later is small

HyacinthineMacaw · 07/02/2023 08:49

It’s still quiet, tourist wise, at the moment, so do come now! Everything is open, yes it’s a bit muddy in places but limestone hills drain quickly and the walking is fab at this time of year. I am in a bit which gets a lot of media attention, and international tourists flock here in droves, but town is still quiet enough to be enjoyable. Don’t come to my little bit of the Cotswolds at the beginning of May, I am expecting it to be a circus 😁

Heavydirtysou1 · 07/02/2023 08:50

Lake district? You expect rain so won't be disappointed if it is! Stay in a spa hotel overlooking lakes?

whiteroseredrose · 07/02/2023 08:54

We went this time last year and it poured down. However there were lots of cozy pubs to enjoy.

MaverickGooseGoose · 07/02/2023 08:58

It could pour down in the summer! I'd go now and hope for good dry weather but plenty to do if not.

ithoughtisawapuddycat · 07/02/2023 15:29

We've had events in June and July cancelled due to heavy rain so no guarantees at all. The town I'm from does get very busy during the summer months but is lovely all year round.

Pick a good hotel with a few facilities so if it does rain one day, you can cosy up in front of a fire for an afternoon, which would be heaven to me anyway.
