Food for Yr6 residential

Did you send extra food with your DC on their residential? Unsure what the done thing is. Provide a multipack of sweets, large bag of popcorn etc to share out in the dorm? All girls in the class will be in one room together 😱

£200 pocket money?

That’s ridiculous. Surely it’s a typo?

Absolutely not. We make it clear to our parents that no sweets are to be packed in bags. There are multiple reasons for this:

  • allergies and medical conditions: you and/or your child may not be aware of the allergies of others nor about any conditions where food intake needs to be regulated,
  • overeating: if a child stuffs themselves or has too much sugar and is sick, the residential centre will insist that they are sent home for a minimum of two days (even if we know it's due to food),
  • interrupts sleep: we use the dorm bedrooms for sleep and sleep alone. Having secret midnight feasts causes disruption for all the kids in that room and the adults. A lack of sleep is one of the primary reasons for fall-outs whilst on residential,
  • it's just not needed: we give plenty of treats during the day and have sweets and hot chocolate in the evening.

@Iamnotthe1 - I guess it just shows that different schools have different rules on this then. My DC’s school were definitely more laid back and allowed kids to bring a sensible amount of sweets.

One small bag of sweets as a little treat - anymore and you risk kids overeating and being sick which is a nightmare for both them and the staff.

I'd query the £200, that seems insane and must surely be meant to be £20. Round here the maximum amount kids are allowed to take is £10 and even that amount is a bit frowned on....
