Dehumidifier recommendations needed.

Does anyone have a dehumidifier that they would recommend? We don’t have lots of space so looking for a small dehumidifier to deal with condensation & mould. Would also appreciate any other tips for dealing with / preventing condensation, which seems especially bad this year. Thank you!

I got this one and it’s fantastic. Daughter has a small damp patch by her window and this clears it up. Her windows are no longer full of condensation. We leave it on in her room overnight as she doesn’t mind the noise. I use it in my bathroom in daytime and dry my washing!! Light loads like shirts, underwear, trousers etc take about 5 hours. Towels around 8. No more washing on radiators. Costs about 5p an hour. Dehumidifier It’s been the best investment done my air fryer!!

Dehumidifier

For condensation I'd recommend a karcher window vac. We have one in addition to a dehumidifier, and if I keep on top of the condensation then the dehumidifier is never needed.

Thank you @User129867588 that looks fantastic & not too big to store away when we’re not using. We had one quite a few years ago & it was massive so couldn’t really put it away. Is it mains operated?

Thank you @BlackboardMonitorVimes, do you use your window vac everyday?

I can recommend Meaco. We have small one (12L I think) as it's used for bedroom and bathroom. We've been using it for months now and it dried the walls, so humidity reduced from 70% to 60. Before, it was almost 70-75% on default. We now run it only when we take a shower or on rainy days.

BlackboardMonitorVimes · 06/02/2023 13:03

@Mintylinty to first tackle a problem then yes, otherwise every two or three days depending on if there is condensation on the windows. Worth running it round the shower too.

I have a meaco one. It's not tiny but brilliant and has not really been off since we got it apart from overnight but you could store it

fussychica · 06/02/2023 14:46

Meaco 12 litre. Very pleased with it.
Also have a window vac which I use most days as we have very large windows and they get quite bad when the weather is as cold as its been lately.

LemonDrizzle10 · 06/02/2023 16:37

We have an Ebac one, had it for years now.
Use it next to the airer when I have to hang the washing inside.

aibutohavethisusername · 06/02/2023 19:30

i have always had ebac and they have been great.

struggled to find one recently so got a Meaco last week. It is great so far.

Parisj · 06/02/2023 19:36

Meaco whole house one, I'd replace it in a heartbeat its an absolute workhorse.
Tips
The condensation comes from washing, showering, cooking, so unless you have a dehumidifier you need great extractors or open windows. The condensation settles on wherever is the coldest wall, so put the dehumidifier near the source of the humidity (ours is under where our washing hangs to dry) not where the mould is necessarily.

JamMakingWannaBe · 06/02/2023 19:38

If it is for a warm space, the Meaco is good. For a cool space you need to look for a desiccant model.

Things to prevent condensation:

  • close bathroom door when showering and until steam has gone
  • use kitchen extractor fan when boiling pans or your kettle
  • don't dry laundry inside without a dehumidifier
  • on a dry day, open the windows to air your house

We have Meaco 20 litre one. Had it a couple of months now and it's brilliant. Kept on the landing and has a laundry setting too. No more condensation on the windows either. We don't have it running all the time, mainly when doing loads of washing as we don't use the tumble dryer anymore.
