Low ferritin and folate impact on mental health?

I’ve felt run down, tired and very anxious for months, basically feeling on high alert.
My concentration is shot and I’m always tired even after 12 hours sleep.

I’ve been having counselling to tackle my anxiety and just put it down to work stress.

It was only after having physical symptoms as well, sore muscles and joints, increased heat rate and a lot of hair loss I went for blood test.

My ferritin is 14 and my folate level 1.9. My heamaglobin and my Vitamin D is good.

I’m wondering if these deficiencies could have caused or exacerbated my anxiety.

If you’ve had low ferritin and folate how did
you feel mentally?

I just want to check, you aren’t taking your thyroxine with your iron tablets are you? They affect the absorption of the thyroxine. BTF advise not taking iron until 2 hrs after the thyroxine (although GP’s only say 1 hr)

Have you been tested for coeliac? Might be worth a look - it’s not much fun once diagnosed but from my experience a lot of your symptoms look that way, especially when you mentioned thinking you’re not absorbing nutrients properly. That can cause anxiety / depression as well as the more well known digestive symptoms & also extreme fatigue/ malabsorption.
Look it up - it affects 1/100 people and many are undiagnosed so it’s a definite thing to look into.

@Pigeonchested I don’t think so, it’s never been mentioned. I’ve put my deficiencies down to a combination of a veggie (sometimes rubbish) diet, heavy periods and taking omeprazole for years. Without taking the omeprazole my acid reflux is horrendous.

Hi @DadsElectric nope I take my thyroxine in the am and iron before bed. Appreciate you checking though as I want aware you shouldn't take together.

TSH of 5.1 is hypothyroidism.
Get the Gp to check you for thyroid antibodies, the most common type of hypothyroidism is hashimotos which is an autoimmune condition. Makes
you feel tired, anxious, depressed and achey. Amongst other things.

Ive just had a blood test done and mine is TSH 1.56 mIU/L
Is that the same metric? It says normal range 0.27 - 4.20?
