Can't ignore the hype though.

So would you recommend starting all the way back from season 1 or can I get away with only watching the current season?

OP posts:
CrkdLttrCrkdLttr · 05/02/2023 14:28

Unforgotten is another one worth a watch. New season coming soon I think!

How??? Sad

Never mind ‘Unforgotten’ - they’re still unforgiven in my eyes …

mrssunshinexxx · 05/02/2023 14:30

So jealous you have it all to watch !

NightsThatStartWithWhiskey · 05/02/2023 14:32

I hadn’t watched any of it either OP, until about two weeks ago. I started with season 1, now I’ve caught up and can’t wait for tonight!

TwoMonthsOff · 05/02/2023 14:33

@Tulipomania the first series is the best one I think…..it has some strong violence though.

Always4Brenner · 05/02/2023 14:33

Series one from the beginning I did a coy-le of weeks ago hooked and will buy on blu ray 9n the summer for birthday treat.

Viviennemary · 05/02/2023 14:38

It passed me by too. But i downloaded season 1 a week or two ago and watched. It really is very good indeed. Worth starting at the beginning. Will watch the rest soon but saving them.

scrumpledtitskin · 05/02/2023 14:41

I really want to watch this from the start, but I'm a big wuss. Just how horrifyingly violent/dark is it?

Will it give me nightmares and stay with me, or could I watch through my hands with fingers in ears for the worst bits? 🤞🤞

AllTheExtraClouds · 05/02/2023 14:42

I've watched it backwards 😂 Dh watched it and i started in series 3, then went back via series 2, then 1. Mostly because the violence in second episode was a bit much for me so i stopped watching it first time round. It's brilliant and i loved it and can't wait for the finale!

Rebel2023 · 05/02/2023 14:43

If you get 15 mins through the first episode and think "meh" so did I
Then everyone was raving so I went back to it and adored it. Just took a minute to click for me for some reason

I missed the first series, I think it began with something grim and decided not to watch. Caught up with it partway through S2 and realised I'd missed A TV Event. Back to S1. Absolutely worth it. Its grim at times but gripping. Watch the lot.

See this is what I'm worried about, I miss some of the best tv out there because I can't handle 'grim' Sad

I watched the first 40 mins of episode one (fell asleep), then mentioned in work that I'd started it and my colleague mentioned how harrowing some of the scenes are.

There is some violence, but it's not gratuitous- it's integral to the story, not gore.

The vast majority of it is brilliant dialogue and story, and many moments of humour and warmth too.

Backhometothenorth · 05/02/2023 14:49

Yes I was the same as you! Started watching it three weeks ago and we just made it to series 3 episode 5 last night in time for the last episode! Fantastic show.

TenoringBehind · 05/02/2023 14:50

It had passed me by until about 2 weeks ago. Once I read all the hype about how brilliant it was I decided to give it a go and I’ve just binge watched it all. Series 1 is a bit weak, but if you stick with it it gets brilliant by series 2, and series 3 has been one of the best things I’ve watched for a long time. Just hope tonight’s episode isn’t a let down.

TenoringBehind · 05/02/2023 14:51

And yes you must start with series 1.

Tilllly · 05/02/2023 14:54

Watch from series 1

Immediately

Get off MN and start watching. Stat.

2bazookas · 05/02/2023 14:56

Start from season 1 episode one. The story lines and characters build over a very long period.

TwoMonthsOff · 05/02/2023 16:47

@scrumpledtitskin
I have watched it three times so I knew to look away at certain points, it’s disturbing and I don’t need to see that as it upset me but it is relevant to the story, you will know when it is about to happen so don’t miss out on the best British TV series ever made

Quinque · 05/02/2023 17:00

Absolutely watch from the very beginning but also avoid all media tomorrow, no radio, TV, social media or newspapers. You really don't want to find out the ending before you've watched all 3 series.

TwoMonthsOff · 05/02/2023 17:05

Did anyone catch in series 1 - one of the subtle humour moments when CC boss says ‘yeah check up on this Tommy Lee Jones’ CC does a subtle eye roll ….’Royce…Tommy Lee Royce’

PAFMO · 05/02/2023 17:39

Line of Duty gets better after the first series.
I watched the first, and thought so far, so Taggart /Rebus. (bored shitless of the gangster's moll trope) but after that it got soooo good.

scrumpledtitskin · 05/02/2023 18:36

@TwoMonthsOff and @Telephome

That's useful, thanks. If I get a hint or warning something is about to happen I cope better than things jumping out of the blue

FayKnights · 05/02/2023 18:50

I was you a week ago, and started from series 1. BLOODY BRILLIANT!!

TwoMonthsOff · 05/02/2023 18:51

@scrumpledtitskin
its not directed like that to be ‘jumpy’ and shocking, it builds up

QueefQueen80s · 05/02/2023 19:30

I started recently and love it.

AromaSun · 16/02/2023 22:23

I also just started Season 1, so much hype so I thought it must be good. It is! I've managed to watch Season 1 in a couple weeks and on Season 2. I can definitely see why people loved it. Its addictive and I'd rather watch this than do housework lol
