And keep getting bottles that the lids are firmly shut tight on?

We order a few a week and always at least 1 we can't open without trying for days and nearly taking the skins off our hands!

Try twisting it with a rubber 🧤😉

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 04/02/2023 18:10

Ps. That’s a lot of squash!

Samcro · 04/02/2023 18:41

They are hard to get off

blackpinkinyourarea · 04/02/2023 18:47

Yes i have noticed this! Its not just when it's a new bottle being opened for the first time either. I try to not screw it shut all the way, so that when i want it again its not ripping my hand open.

Beachsidesunset · 04/02/2023 18:49

I hate it when they're full to the brim - no chance of opening without sticky spillage! I use a tea towel to open the welded-on ones.

It is.

Ds is autistic and only likes it strong and is also a swimmer so gets through a lot of drinks!

The tea towel has failed.

So I'm going for the rubber gloves next as suggested above Grin

They are really tight, I use a knife to cut around the bits holding it sealed, and then still need a tea towel

AnchorWHAT · 04/02/2023 19:03

Not just asda, my current bugbear is the lids on all fizzy water, they seem to have changed from simple screw off tops to one that is partially attached so it hurts to unscrew them and there is a big plastic ridge holding them onto the bottle.

AutumnCrow · 04/02/2023 19:06

I have a special gadget designed for people with arthritic or weak hands and fingers. One of those should work. It's like a spanner / wrench thingy.

sanityisamyth · 04/02/2023 19:07

I find their flavoured water hard to open. I have to use my teeth. I grip it between my molars and then twist the bottle. I'll probably break my teeth one day. They're ridiculously tight lids.

FairytaleofNewHampshire · 04/02/2023 19:07

I can't undo any Asda drink bottles, luckily my kitchen scissors have something on them to loosen them.
It's only that make, other bottles are much easier to open.

ScarlettDarling · 04/02/2023 19:10

So surprised that I haven’t had a problem with them…I’m usually feeble when it comes to opening lids but never had a bother with Asda squash🤔

ReamsOfCheese · 04/02/2023 19:13

@AnchorWHAT Oh my God I thought it was just me. I feel like I'm having to make a sacrifice of half my palm to the pop gods every time I open the strawberry fizzy water!

Eeek , don’t do this ! Dh used to all the time and last summer ended up cracking a tooth and needing a crown.

😁nope not just you, bloody awful design.

GenuineKlatchianPottery · 04/02/2023 19:20

I use the door trick.
Put bottle lid in gap on hinge side of door.
Close door so lid is held tight.
Turn bottle.
Works every time.
You will occasionally have to give the door a quick wipe with a damp cloth if it’s carbonated.

Yes - sacrificing my your palm is precisely it!!!

I'm also very glad to read it's not just me.

The bottle opener for weak hands sounds good though as ds has a physical disability and his hands are getting weaker so it'll be an investment for his future and a saviour of my hands!

I keep a wide rubber band around my tea canister for the purposes of opening jars and bottles. Dead trendy me.
Also used for milk in plastic bottles. God they are stupidly difficult to open.

BakewellGin1 · 04/02/2023 19:25

We use nut crackers on ours

sanityisamyth · 05/02/2023 08:03

I wonder if Asda knows that their bottles have better security than a bank vault?!

whoruntheworldgirls · 05/02/2023 09:16

Yep we've had a few that were very tight

fruitpastille · 05/02/2023 10:15

Also suffering with this problem! I pour some boiling water on mine which slightly softens and expands the lid so it will open.

itsgettingweird · 05/02/2023 15:40

Well I've tried the rubber gloves and failed.

Next stop the door and then boiling water - wish me luck.

And Grin to stronger than a bank vault.

Use nut crackers. The long handles help with the twist.
