Ideally without using loads of chemicals but anything will do- mine never comes up very clean (hard water area)

rubyslippers · 04/02/2023 15:48

In shower spray after every shower
squuegge
viakal and then buff dry when cleaning

AuntyMabelandPippin · 04/02/2023 15:49

Not sure how to get it clean firstly, but if you scoosh it every time it's used it stops the limescale coming back.

I just use the supermarket own brand cream cleaner. Sometimes a bit of bicarb on the cloth if it seems particularly bad. Sometimes use the squeegy thing but not always.

rosesarentalwaysred125 · 04/02/2023 15:51

I read a really good life hack about this years ago on mumsnet. Someone said they always sprayed the shower screen down with viakal
and a cleaning cloth/sponge
when they were having their shower, so they remembered. This is what I do now and the limescale doesn't get the chance to build up!

Robinredface · 04/02/2023 15:51

A dishmatic filled half with washing up liquid and half white vinegar, game changer!

FeinCuroxiVooz · 04/02/2023 15:51

spraying with method daily shower spray after every shower before the steam clears.

Forever42 · 04/02/2023 15:52

If it has a lot of limescale buildup, I recommend HG limescale remover. Then squeegee after each shower and use a daily shower spray. Clean once a week or so with regular cleaner, rinse well and buff when dry with a soft cloth.

Musicaltheatremum · 04/02/2023 15:53

I use the karcher windo cleaner machine and suck off all the water. If it's my husband doing it he also wipes down all the surfaces and chrome and dries it every day. I never need to clean the shower but always ensure he goes in after me 🤣

bellsbuss · 04/02/2023 15:55

Spray with cleaner before use then after each shower use a window cleaning scraper thing to get rid of excess water. Once a week I give it a good clean with cilit bang

This. I give my shower a really good clean every time I wash my hair. That way I don’t mind my hair getting wet when I’m reaching down into the shower track. And squidgee after each shower.

Bluevelvetsofa · 04/02/2023 15:57

Water softener and wipe with a microfibre cloth after every shower.
Karcher window vac regularly.

Reugny · 04/02/2023 16:00

I squeedgy showers every time I use them if there is one in/near the shower. So yes I do this in family and friends homes as we if I stay over.

Was told to do this as a lodger, and then I realised it means I'm not working out how to clean lime scale off. (I use to have to use lime scale removers.)

Every teen and adult should do this as it also helps to reduce damp and mould.

juneonthemoon · 04/02/2023 16:19

Thanks all for all these suggestions

Cut a lemon in half, rub it over the screen, leave for a few minutes and then use the rough side of a wet sponge. Zero chemicals.

IloveJudgeJudy · 04/02/2023 16:54

Squeegee every single time and mostly buff with a bathroom microfibre cloth from Lakeland and polish sometimes with a different cloth. On the ofd occasion when we're in a big rush we use shower spray. I live in a very hard water area. We began this once we had our en suite replaced and it looks as good as when we had it installed over two years ago. We also wipe the sink every time, too, having made sure no more drips will come out of the tap.

FizzyStream · 04/02/2023 17:02

Scrub with a non scratch scourer and cream Cif. Makes everything in the bathroom sparkle.

maddy68 · 04/02/2023 17:03

White vinegar sprayed on the microfibre cloth off

sarahh96 · 04/02/2023 17:03

I used to be a housekeeper and shower screens were the bain of my life but I finally found a process that works.
Firstly spray viakal onto the screen liberally (make sure the screen is dry before hand)
Give it a good scrub but do not use water to wash it off.
Use a window blade in a downward motion.
Next, use a microfibre to dry the edges but don't use it on the glass, it'll smear.
When you are satisfied that the glass is dry, spray glass cleaner on it. It needs to be a good quality, high alcohol content such as Evans.
Dry with a clean, dry cotton tea towel but don't polish. The alcohol in the glass cleaner will evaporate of its own accord leaving smear free glass.
I used to do 10 screens a week like this and it works every time.
The pro housekeepers secret is never use water. Clean with the product and plenty of microfibres/cotton cloths only.

This is my specialist subject! I worked as a cleaner for a while and the fastest way to sort limescale on a shower screen, with no special chemicals or cloths, is to spray with whatever you fancy, then wipe with a dry flannel or a towel. You may need to slightly damp the towel if you use one.

I used to use a towel I specially kept 'hard' - didn't tumble dry it or use fabric softener.

Within a few weeks of my once-a-week cleaning, people's shower screens were so good they were asking me how I did it.

If you did that 2 or three times a week, it would be even quicker - no special buys required

FenghuangHoyan · 04/02/2023 17:09

You want to use Aldi's own brand bathroom spray. I used it a couple of weeks ago and it was fantastic. Got rid of all the limescale around the taps and on the shower screen with almost no bother. I've used stuff by HG and others before which did nothing. The Aldi stuff was cheap and really good. I'm going to be buying a lot more as it got the job done brilliantly.

I also used their kitchen cleaner and it was great at cleaning grease.

Once you have a shower screen clean, then washing machine conditioner liquid is good at keeping it shiny.

Stardu · 04/02/2023 17:11

White wine vinegar! Dissolves light limescale, Google it

juneonthemoon · 04/02/2023 17:32

ChristmasFluff thank you - what do you mean 'spray with whatever you fancy' though?

OP posts:
juneonthemoon · 04/02/2023 17:35

Thanks sarahh96 as well - I've always wondered what the pros do.

Ideally I want to try natural ways so might start with the white vinegar and lemon or robinredface 's dishmatic and if that doesn't sort it I will move on to the other options

Another housekeeper here. My boss isn't happy unless the screens look brand new every morning.
I spray with Viakal, wipe with barely damp microfiber cloth, wait till it's dry and follow up with Windowlene and a dry cloth.
We've tried lots of window cleaner and imo Windowlene requires the least buffing.
One of our showers was used by owners during lockdown and the lack of regular cleaning is obviously in the amount of limescale - even now.
