High platelet and lymphocytes count

I've also posted this in health. Hi, wondering if someone could talk me down. I'm a 34 year old with a 2 year old. I've recently had some bloods done and they have come back with high platelet, lymphocytes and wbc. The platelet count has been high for 15 years and the lymphocytes for the past 2. Only now are doctors looking into and have referred me to a hematologist. I've had an u/s on my abdomen and it was all clear. Theyre apparently investigating ET and Lpd. I'm so scared, surely I'd have had symptoms after all of this time. Im just tired all the time but that's been going on for such a long time. Anyone with experience?
Platelets 501
Wbc 16.9
Lymphocyte 6.1

Thanks x

Hiya, what is ET and lpd?

Littlepic · 07/02/2023 19:04

Hi,

By ET do you mean Essential Thrombocythemia? My husband was diagnosed with this in his 30s. He's now 41 and living with it for a while now. I can try and answer questions

@Onnabugeisha sorry, it means essential thrombocythemia and lymphoproliferative disorder x

@Littlepic yes, thats what it says in my notes. I don't see the hematologist until March so I've been Googling which is probably the worst thing to do. As it's always the worst outcome that you find x

@Littlepic was it just your husbands platelets were high or any other abnormal blood results? What was his platelet count upon diagnosis x

Dr Google is not your friend!

My husband is very well managed. He injects his meds once a week, has regular blood tests and speaks to his consultant every 12 weeks to keep a check on things.
He stays very healthy doing regular exercise and has given up alcohol completely.
Sometimes he gets fatigue if doing too much and will have stomach pain when this happens and he tends to be a very hot person.
Generally though he is incredibly health and his platelets are now well within the normal range.

XxleighxX · 07/02/2023 22:12

@Littlepic absolutely agree, been trying not to do it.
Ok, I see. Sounds very much how I am but otherwise I'm generally well. I just worry as they've always been high yet only now they are investigating it x

I can't remember his original results but they were very high.
He was only picked up because he worked in an area with radiation and had to have blood tests as a result.
He also has Gilberts, which used to give him a jaundice look to his eyes but this has disappeared since he was treated for the ET.
I'm fairly sure other blood results were normal but not 100% sure.

Littlepic · 07/02/2023 22:16

I hope all goes well with your appointment.

Thank you 😊

I know someone who has ET. I believe it's rare. She takes immune supressing drug and is monitored for platelet levels but is fine in herself as such. If you're googling and reading that it's a cancer I think it technically is but it is something that is er, mild, for want of a better word and can be lived with and managed. I am in no way medical and this is all my knowledge on the subject but I didn't want to not write anything if I could reassure you a little if you had read the word cancer and panicked.

Littlepic · 07/02/2023 22:24

Yes, I was just about to say. ET does come under the cancer umbrella but isn't likely to become life limiting. It was mutate but this is very rare and my husband has had genetic tests done to see how likely this is for him.

Littlepic · 07/02/2023 22:24

Sorry meant to say it can mutate

XxleighxX · 07/02/2023 22:25

@ChristmasJumperz thanks for the reply. That's what I've read and it's really worried me. I think the wait to see the consultant isn't helping either. I just keep thinking I feel well so surely it can't be anything too serious, not a Dr though.

Thanks @Littlepic i think with me having the abnormal wbc too I just feel something really isn't right

Easy for me to say but try not to worry.
In the meantime try to do some early morning cardio exercise. It will get the blood moving around your body fast and helps to prevent clotting (DH was advised to do this). Also good for mental health.

sunshinel · 07/02/2023 23:01

I have ET, picked up when I was pregnant with my first. I have to take asprin daily but no other medication yet. Diagnosed 10 years ago I'm now 42. I have blood tests and speak to consultant once a year now, used to be every 6 months. Platelets are stable around 850-950 at the moment and I'll apparently need medication if they reach 1500 or more. I think that can be likely the older I get. I used to worry lots but it doesn't affect me at all currently. Hope you're ok, try not to worry

Onnabugeisha · 07/02/2023 23:57

Thanks OP, glad you got some responses. Wish I could be helpful, but know nothing about those conditions. Wishing you the best as well. Xx

XxleighxX,

how did this turn out for you?

XxleighxX · 12/02/2023 08:30

@Sassygirlj hi, this is still ongoing. I don't see the hematologist until March x

OP posts:
ZickZack · 28/06/2023 16:26

@XxleighxX can I please ask how this turned out? Have similar issues with high wbc (it was 15.8 and now 12.6), and high lymphocytes (8).

XxleighxX · 28/06/2023 16:53

@ZickZack hi, when I saw the haematologist they said that all my bloods were normal under microscope and that they were putting it down to my chronic sinusitis and the fact that I smoke cigarettes. I felt a bit fobbed off as I'm still feeling unwell. Hope you're ok 😊
