Kenwood House parking?

NomNomNominativeDeterminism · 03/02/2023 15:55

Does anyone know what parking charges there at Kenwood House by Hampstead Heath?

The website says that there is some parking and it’s not free.

I really want to know whether that means loads of parking or hardly any, whether I’m going to be paying £££, and if I should take a pocketful of change or have to download a parking app. I can’t find it as a location on RingGo or PayByPhone.

I can’t get anything out of English Heritage on their live chat and I can’t find any other way of contacting them.

Man, I feel tech stupid. Can anyone help with direct knowledge?

I'm a volunteer there - there is some parking (not a huge car park). I can't remember if it's cash or an app, sorry, as a volunteer we're allowed to park in the stable block. It's at the West Lodge on Hampstead Lane. But there's plenty of street parking in Hampstead Lane, Bishops Avenue and Winnington Road. It can get busy at times though.

It’s free to English Heritage members and a few pounds on one of the apps for everyone else. Probably about 30-40 spaces in all (rough guess!). Very busy at weekend lunchtimes but earlier or later or weekdays you should be OK for a space.

Thank you so much@Marisquita @Twentypast

if I can find out about the app l’ll get it in advance

When are you going? Good idea to get any app in advance as phone signals are rubbish in Hampstead!

SusiePevensie · 03/02/2023 16:50

If you are reasonably mobile I really really wouldn't drive there!

Marisquita · 03/02/2023 16:52

OK - just checked and it’s 55 spaces. PayByPhone location 88832. Costs £3.60 for 2 hours, £7.20 for 4 hours, £10.70 for 5 hours.

Oh how time have changed, we used to live nearby and it was one of my favourite places to take my toddlers. When have lovely memories and photos of tobogganing down the slope in front of the house.
Fortunately, there were no parking charges then and going into the house was free. Lovely tea room.

Thank you all, you are brilliant.

@Marisquita where did you find the information? I looked and looked. Please tell me it wasn’t the first result on Google!

You can generally park on the road outside for nothing

NeedToKnow101 · 03/02/2023 18:38

You can park free on the very long street outside the entrance. Or on the side roads. It does get busy but there's always a parking space within 5-10 minutes walk.

MarthaJonesPhone · 03/02/2023 18:41

Park in Winnington Road and walk up, you can usually get pretty close.

icefishing · 03/02/2023 18:42

You can park on side roads usually.

Stepuptowardsinfinity · 03/02/2023 18:51

Park for free on the Bishops Avenue if you're ok walking a bit as it gets busy.

Vinorosso74 · 03/02/2023 19:02

I would advise not driving on a weekend as parking can be difficult on the roads nearby. As others have said, if you're happy walking then you might be able to park a bit further away.
The 210 bus goes by there and passes Finsbury Park, Archway or Golders Green stations

Going into the house is still free. It was bequeathed to the nation by Lord Iveagh so EH can't charge. It's a bit of a problem as usually entrance fees are used for the upkeep of properties so as volunteers we are supposed to promote sale of the guidebook.
