Flying with the U.K. question

Hi there,
This is probably a very silly question but I genuinely don’t know the answer. I need to fly from England to Belfast in two weeks’ time. It’s an emergency visit as sadly my sibling has been diagnosed out of the blue with a tumour and does not have long to live. I’m taking my husband and son with me for moral support . I need to know if I need to do anything about the fact that both of them will have prescribed medication with them. DH takes antidepressants and some other anti anxiety med which is one of the controlled ones ( Pregablin) and DS takes antidepressants too. Do they need a GP letter or anything? Sorry if this seems foolish but I am very stressed and need to make very quick plans as you can imagine.

A copy of a prescription should be sufficient, though I’m sure a more knowledgeable person will be along shortly

If you have the nhs app, ensure it's on there. We have never been asked about prescriptions despite flying all over the world

Meds in your hand luggage and in original packaging. I take our prescription as well.

Sending hugs, sorry to hear about your sibling.

I wouldn't be at all worried. I've travelled loads with medications. The only time anyone has ever said anything about it was when I put my inhaler in the liquids tray and put it through the x-ray and the very kind security man slightly freaked out because if I had had an asthma attack and my inhaler was stuck in the x-ray queue he was worried I might have keeled over there and then (I wouldn't have, but he said I should have carried it on me instead...).

Take it in the original boxes with their names on the stickers.

Some countries do require more and it is always better to check than assume. In the past, I have needed to get prior written permission from a country’s ministry of health for a medicine not on any UK controlled list.

Thanks. Title should say ‘within’, sorry.
