Pulling out a loose tooth.

Has anyone ever done this themselves ?

The tooth is loose so there is no saving it but its the cost of dental treatment scares me more than going to the dentist. Last time i had an extraction the cost was £180 and that was a few years ago so i expect its considerably more now. The tooth dosnt hurt at the moment but i expect it will at some point and then i will pay the earth to have it taken out.

Anyone ever done it themselves and was it painful to do ?

Yes. It cane out whole, thank goodness.

More recently I have had one that had erupted out of the gum and was loose but the roots appeared to be too deep to pull it out myself and it was very painful.

When the dentist pulled it out he discovered it was cracked so it didn’t come out whole as it broke upon extraction. He then had to rummage around making sure he had removed the other two bits.

Neither experience resulted in a dry socket but I have had a dry socket in another part of my mouth which was painful.

The problem you have is that it may not come out in full or if it does you may get a dry socket or even an infection.

I have a very high pain threshold, thankfully but that is another thing to consider.

I've recently paid £70 for an extraction with a great private dentist so I would ring around and check prices before you do anything.

Alternatively, look for emergency dental hospitals nearby.

Think i may have to brave the dentist's bill then. Dont want to make things worse.

Perio involved teeth tend to bleed, so there's a risk you bleed and can't get it to stop yourself. The teeth can break. It maybe mobile because it's cracked, it maybe curved etc. There's a risk you take bone with it and damage nerves/get a hole in your sinus. It's not sensible not to mention painful, and you've got no one to provide care if it goes wrong

Most people who say they've extracted their own tooth have actually broken the crown off and left the root in the gum. If it's so loose that your tongue can push it out it will likely come out at some point when your eating. Otherwise find a dentist to do it

Yes, the one I pulled out would most likely have come out that day. I pulled it out slowly and it was a slow drawing feeling and slid out whole.

I don’t think there was any blood, just a slight taste of blood in the socket and it was clearly ready to come out.
