Fixed my fatigue and now I have to much energy

I have had fatigue fibromyalgia and endometriosis for years. Have been fobbed off with the fatigue for a long time and said it was all normal. until a lovely lady doctor did some tests turns out I’m deficient in b12 vitamin d folic acid and put on some pills to boost my mood. Since having an injection and taking the tablets for over a month I’m now full of beans and can’t seem to sleep as I’m wide awake. I’m trying to keep busy and knacker myself out during the day. This is hard though as I’m in a lot of pain at times and often have to sit and rest. I’ve tried lavender spray hot bath before bed warm milk but nothing is working.

Magnesium tablets or Epsom salts in the bath can help with sleep.

You will find some balance eventually.
Try not to go to bed until you're properly tired, as well

DinDjarin · 03/02/2023 06:48

Haven't a clue about sleeping, I'd be trying to read until I slept I think. About these pills though...! What type are they, what amount of b12, D and folic acid are you taking?

Following so I can find out how to have too much energy. I don't think I have any of those deficiencies. :-/

Andrelaxzz · 03/02/2023 07:10

As a fellow FM sufferer. Exercise is key, you have to go through about 15 minutes of horrible pain and then it eases off. I swim, play football and go to the gym and do circuits. People don't believe me when they see me walking around limping like fuck and struggling on stairs that I can also play football but I can once pushed through the pain barrier. I have convinced several people I know with FM to take up more exercise and it has made a massive difference. As has giving up wheat completely.
Also no phones after about 8pm and definitely not in bed!
As a lifelong insomniac I also just have learnt to accept it. Makes it much less annoying and makes me sleep more.

Is what you did any different than just taking a b-complex vitamin? I could take folic acid but I already take b-complex, so probably not a good idea.

DewinDwl · 03/02/2023 07:16

I think some types of b12 can have side effects like what you describe. If it doesn't settle maybe ask you doctor to consider a different type.

WhoNeedsSleepNotISaidMyBody · 03/02/2023 07:21

Sorry to hear about your sleep issues. It's horrible! I am much the same, but I'm diabetic. When my sugars are under control I sleep a bit better. Have you tried low carb?

im another one who'd like to know exactly what you're taking & who you saw. Was it your GP or a specialist?

Here for the miracle prescription details op. Everyone is knackered-everyone wants the solution!

Have you tried listening to an audio book, food sleep hygiene and all that jazz? If not you may need to get your (miracle) prescription tweaked.

tinselandjoy · 03/02/2023 07:30

What time of day do you take your supplements?

Sometimes first thing in the morning is best for a good nights' sleep.

Being knackered is really not the same as having chronic fatigue and FM. The latter two put being knackered on a completely different level.

Leah2005 · 03/02/2023 08:14

My mum was also found to be low in folic acid (and has fibro) following blood tests due to drop down exhaustion. She has been prescribed 10ml (liquid form) a day but just for three months. It's a much bigger dose than available over the counter so it does need to be prescribed by a Dr. (sorry OP, just for those who asked). She hasn't got too much energy now so I wonder if you have been over prescribed? How much folic acid do you take and how long have you been taking it?

Mumsanetta · 03/02/2023 08:18

I’m sorry I have no suggestions and am also following for details of your exact prescription and how you take them!

figmaofmyimagination · 03/02/2023 08:18

Also here for details of the wonderpills please!

Why don’t you try taking them every other day, or 2/3 days for a bit, see if that suits you better?

Ah, god, sorry. Yes, of course, I know that, I should have been more careful. I was being a bit tongue in cheek because Jan is the depths of winter and everyone I know and speak to just says how knackered they are. If there's an answer to it, I'm all ears.

Didn't mean to minimise your health problems @Plumplum1.

Pixiedust1234 · 03/02/2023 10:31

Try taking those supplements in the morning. I know certain medications need to be taken at breakfast otherwise they interfere with sleep.

I too (as a fellow fibro and lupus sufferer) would like to know your dosage of each please.

picklemewalnuts · 03/02/2023 10:44

Gosh PlumPlum, that's the holy grail for us Fibro CFS folk!

I wish...

You said the GP put you on some pills…did that include an antidepressant? If so, in some cases this can cause serotonin syndrome which causes over activity, inability to sit still, restlessness etc.

BettyB0Op · 03/02/2023 13:07

Can you share what exactly you’ve been given? Sounds like it would help others. Sorry can’t help with the excess energy, I have B12 injections every 12 weeks but don’t feel any different sadly.

Plumplum1 · 07/02/2023 12:01

Sorry for everyone my energy levels have calmed down and I’m now able to sleep and back to feeling a normal amount of tired. I’ve been given vitamin d 3200 unit folic acid 5mg and the b12 injection.
