It's not even that windy here and my (closed) door is creaking incessantly. It seems to be coming from the bottom of the frame??

Door was installed last year. It's a uPVC back door. Any ideas? DH (aka the handyman) is on nights and Google is baffling me.

WD40 on the hinges?
Fixes all squeaks.

JorisBonson · 02/02/2023 21:13

Yep, DH actually did that the other day while he was doing something else with WD40 (and telling me all about WD40, it was riveting).

Yes definitely wd40
hold a wodge of kitchen roll underneath to mop any drips
If no wd40 use a bit of cooking oil

Or fairy liquid. A little dribble on hinges works well.

OnTheBoardwalk · 02/02/2023 21:14

agree WD40

JorisBonson · 02/02/2023 21:15

It's not coming from the hinges which is baffling, the door is shut tight, it seems to be coming from the actual frame itself... Might just go to bed 🤣

Fixing a squeaky hinge is imo one of the best diy jobs
quick result and very satisfying when a squeak stops!

nearly as good as I unblocking a frozen or blocked plug - that gurgle when it releases!

Sometimes you can’t actually get to the hinges on an outside door like you can on an internal one…

JorisBonson · 02/02/2023 21:29

I've kicked it a couple of times and thrown dairy liquid on the hinges 🤣 crazy how a little noise can drive you mad!

Ones big cans of WD-40 are half price at Tesco. £3.50 With a Clubcard

Speaking as someone who lives in a very very windy place....(I worked out that the next highest ground to the SW of us is actually in Venezuela)... wedge the bottom of the door. An actual door wedge would be fantastic, but in its absence use folded up cardboard or an old sock or something.

picklemewalnuts · 02/02/2023 21:35

Is it loose and moving in the frame? So not the hinges? Try a folded piece of paper wedged in to keep it snug.

Geppili · 02/02/2023 21:38

Rub a white candle liberally all over the frame and the edges of the door.
