NSPCC Number Day

DC’s school is hosting ‘NSPCC Number Day’ tomorrow. Children are asked to go into school wearing a number costume and to make a donation to the NSPCC. I’m very happy to be making a charitable donation. But at no point has the actual purpose of a number costume been explained…. I know I should have asked the school but it’s too late now. Can anyone help me understand why am I spending my evening seemingly pointlessly cutting and sewing?😫

You’re sewing? Mine is wearing his football shirt with a number on it….

Valkirie · 02/02/2023 20:26

Sadly there is no numbered clothing of any description in this house! @FlowersFlowersEverywhere did your DC’s school explain the purpose to you? Like how do wearing numbers relate to understanding the NSPCC charity’s aims and objectives?

I always buy two packs of number stickers for each child from Poundland and then in the morning before they leave for school they cover themselves in them whilst wearing whatever is their favourite outfit. I'm just not crafty and have neither the time nor the inclination. Plus kids in the class who have no costume can just pick a couple of the numbers stickers off my kids and then they have a costume too.

Yes @evemillbank! That’s the way to do it! Unfortunately my DC has some sort of phobia of badgers and stickers and will not wear them. Anyway, my number appliqué is now complete. And I get to spend my Friday evening unpicking the bastard thing.

DD(8) is wearing her HP Quidditch jumper which has a 7 on it, and DS(4) is wearing his Numberblocks tshirt which has the first four 'Blocks and their numbers. I did have to buy the tshirt for DS, but he loves Numberblocks so he'll get some wear out of it at least!

DD told me that her teacher said she will have some number stickers if anybody doesn't have anything with numbers on at home, so they can still wear their own clothes (or even if they wear their uniform). I thought that was kind of her.

I cant answer your question as ive got no idea what number day is actually about! I bought a plain white t shirt and used some washable fabric pens to write numbers all over it. Once its washed and returned to plain white it will be his new PE t-shirt as the old one is getting a bit small.

plumduck · 02/02/2023 20:44

They should probably explain it

They’re doing Maths activities, that’s all I know. No idea how it relates to the charity!

Bababababab · 02/02/2023 20:58

We were told numbers or patterns so he is footing in a patterned top andjoggers

AnnoyedByAlfieBear · 02/02/2023 21:05

Plain white tee and let your dc loose with some fabric pens.

CapturedLeprechaun · 02/02/2023 21:15

God you're all better than me. No number clothes here, no stickers, so I'll get some felt tips and write numbers down their arms (and maybe a face paint number on their cheeks) in the morning 😂

Stroganoffo · 02/02/2023 22:45

I'm sick of school springing this crap on us at the last minute . She has no clothes on with numbers . I might get her to draw on her hand , DD is going in her own clothes with her tog 24 coat on and a pound.

BadlyArrangedToasties · 02/02/2023 22:47

Does he have a onesie? On our school people got creative and wore those!
