New bathroom - how disruptive?

We need to have the whole bathroom ripped out and pipes replaced/moved/adjusted. Hope to go from bath to shower as well.

I know it's a piece of string, but how long and how disruptive did you find it?

We are an autistic family so I'm struggling to get going with it, given how difficult it might be.

Youngest DC is a teen, so no littlest to think about, I'm wondering if we should just move out and get it done, not having to leave a toilet in each night may speed things up?

It's loud and messy and will take a good 2 or 3 weeks. I'd move out if it's feasible.

I agree- move out and leave them to it until it's done.

I’d agree. It’s really disruptive. Loud, noisy, not to mention workmen trudging about. If you possibly can, move into a local holiday rental for a couple of weeks. There might be something cheapish at this time of year. Good luck!

Ours took a week. We weren't without anything more than 24 hours. I was warned toilet was coming out in case I wanted to use, installer had problem with connection so had to get another part, but it was all sorted in the afternoon - have to admit he got his wife to go and pick part up for him and drop off!

The same chap did our kitchen a few months before and that was much more hassle.

Small bathroom for us took just over a week. Always had a working toilet. Didn't have a bath with shower over for about 2 - 3 days but it was manageable. Very dusty but worth it

Ours took just over a week. We moved out to an AirBnB while it was done, because that seemed much less stressful that coping with mess/ dust/ workmen in the house and waiting for the toilet to be reconnected each evening. Plus it would have been a week without a shower or bath!

Ours took a week, never without a loo, but we didn't have a bath for 3 days, shower went in on the last day. It was fairly disruptive, worst day was the first when everything got ripped out. They were brilliant at tidying everything up at the end of every day though.

TheNoodlesIncident · 02/02/2023 19:24

I don't think it would be worth moving out for, in all honesty, managing without will be tiresome rather than impossible. You can do showering at local swimming pool or friends/family, loo will be out for as little time as your plumber can make it. Teeth brushing and washes at kitchen sink.

Length of time it takes will depend on how many hours workmen (plumber, tiler etc) put in per day. Hopefully they will do the maximum and not split their time between yours and other jobs.

Ours was a week. They delivered all the stuff the week before which was annoying as I'd a living room full of tiles over the bank holiday but the work was absolutely fine. Obviously dusty and dirty on the stairs and landing but I expected worse being honest
