Is anyone else really senstive to noises?

It's something I really struggle with and it makes me feel like I'm really strange. I've always been like this. The biggest one is people eating, it makes me feel so irrationally angry and emotional when people are eating loudly and I don't know why. I've got tactics for it at home and at work, but sometimes there's no escaping it. The other day at work it was so bad that I was nearly in tears as I couldn't get away from it and I have no idea why. I would never ask anyone to stop eating as I know it's my problem. I also struggle to sleep at night if there's any noise, I usually wear ear plugs

Currently 2 colleagues are crunching crisps and rustling the packets really loudly, the radio is on and we've got a fire alarm test going on and I feel like my head is about to explode. It's like my brain gets overwhelmed and can't function, and I can't focus on anything else. I just want to run away and scream and I'm not certain this is normal

The biggest chatterbox with the loudest voice and an opinion on everything has told the whole room that she needs silence to sleep.

If there's a clock ticking, she can't sleep......

I am the same. One day I will go into a homicidal rage as a result of twats on the train playing music or videos in their phones without speakers. ARGH!

I'm sensitive to noise after my ex neighbors but it's centred on shouting and loud music. I start to panic because I cannot tell when it will stop and if I'm at home I can't get away from it.

And also people who talk and talk about nothing. That just gets on my nerves. I don't understand why people want everyone to know their business.

The world seems much louder now. I've always liked the quiet.

@peasandquiets I've never even heard of that, but I've just had a read and none of the other bits really sound like me apart from the overwhelmed by sensory stimuli bit

@eurochick I will give you an alibi as I'm also likely to do the same thing one dayGrin

@RipWheelersBeard we can come to some sort of Strangers on a Train mutual alibi arrangement.

HSP symptoms and any labelling will give relief for minutes, and what most people want are tips on coping or even better of the underlying condition and possibly how to resolve. One cause could be retained neonatal or other primitive reflexes. If these still exist (and can be mild to full retention) you will be hypersensitive to all stimuli. Various treatments mostly not entirely mainstream although non-invasive apart from on your purse are available to remove or reduce such retained reflexes. Some life events eg child birth have been anecdotally reported to help reduce or remove them. Being aware of your condition, and hence tempering your response, can help, however will be of limited defence when unexpectedly caught out. On the positive side, you get to hear and see and smell and taste a lot of useful (and other) stuff others tend to be slow or non-aware of!

As I get older i get more intolerant of noise. People who bellow to each other when right next to them. They cannot all be deaf! Scraping chairs. Jangling keys.
People come into the reception and let the door go 'bang!; and so any phone conversation is missed! Kids screaming goes right through me. Worse I think as I do not have children.

Oh and men hawking up and spitting. Ugh! The bellowing into their phones. Especially the favourite .." I am on bus. Yeah a bus. Naw a bus...etc etc
