Not enough applicants to interview

ThomasWaghornsConeHat · 02/02/2023 09:32

I applied for a job last month and interviews was due to be held last week. I was told that they was going to wait a few months and readvertise. What do think my chances of being called for a interview are? If I was the only applicant and my application ticked the boxes I'm presuming they would have held interview with just me? It is a career change for me.

Are they looking to employ more than one person perhaps, for a whole new department? In that case i imagine if there just weren't enough applicants they'd try again at a later date.

If it was just one post, yours was the only application, and they withdrew the job ad. for now then i would assume either:

-They've filled the post internally (and were always going to do so).
-Or that perhaps they were looking for more than you can offer at the moment.

Or it could be all sorts of things which is nothing to do with your cv, like there was a sudden recruitment freeze, the team might be reshuffled, there’s a project delay, there is redeployment therefore they have to check internal candidates.

loads of reasons. Best not second guess, and just reapply with your best go

It was just one role. They said they keeping my cv back for the next round but it's hard to not overthink it

We would always have waited for 3 or 4 applicants to interview. If only one applied we'd have reviewed the ad or the position. Even if they looked qualified on paper. So I wouldn't assume there was anything wrong with your application.

I'm sorry, that's crap & it's not surprising you're taking it personally. 💐

However, it could be for any number of reasons! Things they're not willing to disclose to anyone, perhaps especially applicants. (Such as financial difficulties).

I'd just leave them to it (they're keeping your application for the next round), if I saw it re advertised in the future, I personally wouldn't reapply (unless it's a majorly brilliant opportunity)

chin up, it's most likely not personal. Onward & upward.

if it's for you, it won't go past you.

I found myself being the only short-listed applicant for a role and was interviewed. The interview went really well and they really wanted to hire me. However, due to best practise, they couldn't offer me the job without interviewing at least one other candidate. Cue me being made to wait a further three weeks. During this time, I had numerous messages from them about how strong a candidate I was blah blah, and my recruiter kept in touch too. It was all to no avail - the role went to the other candidate in the end. I was irritated for a number of reasons, but mostly for having my time wasted.

My advice would be to continue to job hunt and don't put all your eggs in this particular basket.

Thanks. It's hard to think of myself as a strong candidate after this. I don't need the job really but it would have been lovely to get the experience. I think I will thank them for keeping my application on file then put it of of my mind I think.
