Threadworms!?? What do I do?

My 5 year old tonight woke up screaming because he was so uncomfortable with an itchy bottom, and I've just discovered he has worms.
the problem I'm having is, he puts EVERYTHING in his mouth (sensory issues) chews his clothes etc so I don't see how he's ever going to get rid because he'll just be reinfecting himself constantly surely? I can't wash every single thing in my whole flat? I'm going to struggle even getting all the bedding washed and dried tomorrow because I don't have a drier and live in a small flat.
what is the normal level of precaution to take? I have a tendency to over react things so I'm feeling like he's going to have them forget and we're all going to get them!

This is definitely the least favourite parenting thing over ever had to deal with

My kids are 10 and 13. One bites fingernails and probably gets it at least once a year. I had worms quite a few times as a child (also a nail biter).

Vaseline to stop it itching as they can't wriggle in it.
It's horrible, and difficult to get rid of once established - I used
To joke to DH I should just worm DD once a month like I did with the pets....

Yes to the vaseline and yes to regular worming. Nightmare. I don't think they ever seem to fully go away. If you make sure they wash hands and scrub nails before eating and wet wipe any surface before preparing food it will help. I don't think having a washing machine in the kitchen helps with this tbh

Mine were always getting them - we live in the country and they were out and about making a mess and grubbing about. Thankfully it is not a huge deal as there is good medication for it. It was impossible to stop one of my DDs sucking her fingers - her life would have been a misery if we had tried to. I did make a point of cutting her finger nails as short as possible so that fewer eggs can be trapped under them.

Some children do not get them very often - we all have different strength/quantity of acid in our stomachs - if you don't have much the eggs live to fight another day.

I just regarded it as part of life's rich pattern - but I know it comes as a bit of a shock first time.

Thank you for your reply, yes I know all about the meds/ cleaning & the cycle of the threadworm etc its more what it does to my head and the fact we have had it in the house 4 times now and 3 of the times i had it too. Some of the things I have read about people not getting rid and the fact you cant possibly know where eggs are lurking is what freaks me out Im not actually sure what i want people to say as like I said I know just about everything on the subject now 🤢 I am just hoping this will be the last time.

I did actually read something about a protein in your gut that helps fight these off and some people lack it, but this is what bothers me. I have often wondered if being wrongly prescribed antibiotics in jan 2017 for something i didnt actually have may of made me more prone as antibiotics kill the good bacteria in your gut and probalby more so if there was nothing wrong in the first place and it was literally end of march after this I first caught worms. Anyway I think i just need to hear it comes to an end eventually. Just like to add we are 2 wks in and has been no sign since day 3 And i have checked her morning and night my gloves torch and wipes at hand, my Anxiety would like to continue checking but I know I cant do this in reality its a bit strange and not right. Sorry so long!

How are you @Whatdoesitmatterif? have the visitors gone?
Ignore everyone who says they never had them - for many people there are no symptoms so they wouldn’t know if they did!
I think most kids get them. Keep nails as short as a proctologist, wash all towels and linen, wipe handles and bathroom with a damp cloth, and yes I guess changed toothbrush could be good. Take the meds in another two weeks and accept that you can never unsee the wrigglers! Motherhood is lovely isn’t it
