Nursery fees- 8% increase!

ReluctantCourier · 01/02/2023 20:30

My youngest is in nursery full time at a cost of £62 a day. They’ve just advised fees will be increasing to £67 a day. This feels like a HUGE leap for something that was already a bit steeper than other local offerings.

Could you share your day rate? It’s 8-6 with food included. Not in London or M25.

Pre school 9 till 3. £36 more expensive than some in area but the only one with outstanding ofstead. South
Holiday club £30 8-4pm

Hibernatalie · 01/02/2023 20:36

Sounds reasonable to me, bear in mind inflation is 10% so they are effectively asking for a 2% pay cut. 10 hours plus food - that would cost me £100 per day but I am in the South.

Not London or close, £92 a day has just gone up to £99 a day...

That sounds fairly reasonable, our local one (which is terrible, might I add) is £79 a day.

We currently pay £38 a day for a school attached nursery 9-3 and she takes a packed lunch.

YorkshireIndie · 01/02/2023 20:43

I feel your pain! Ours have gone up 10%. Was a bit 🙄 when they called it a small percentage increase. Felt like responding it was not one

mrsed1987 · 01/02/2023 20:44

I pay £48 per day 8 till 6 with food. East mids. I imagine they will increase in April but he starts school in September so at least it won't be for too long

YetMoreNewBeginnings · 01/02/2023 20:46

The nursery in our street has gone up to £67 a day for under 3's £60 for over 3. 7.30-6

All food drinks and snacks included.

They give a slight reduction of about £20 for people who book 5 days.

PurBal · 01/02/2023 20:46

Ours has gone up 10%

Thehonestbadger · 01/02/2023 20:47

We are in a ‘nice’ area of the north and our nursery has gone from £57 to £63 to £69 per day within the space of a year.
It’s one of the best local nurseries and ofsted outstanding across the board but yes we are wincing at the price. We have two who don’t get funding yet. Luckily only in part time x

Businessflake · 01/02/2023 20:47

Sounds like a reasonable increase to me. It’s hard enough for nurseries to retain staff at the best of times, but nannying rates have gone up massively so they do need to be able to give a decent pay rise to keep people.

Shinyandnew1 · 01/02/2023 20:48

I can see why-with inflation, energy rises and the rise in minimum wage rate. It’s such a lot of money though-when my eldest was little, childcare was £30 a day!

Daisydreaming1 · 01/02/2023 20:50

We’re in south wales (U.K.) we are paying £48.50 a day 7:30-6pm and from February 27th they’re raising the price to £50. This includes meals.

tortiecat · 01/02/2023 20:50

£82 a day, Yorkshire. 7:30am - 6pm, meals, snacks and nappies included. Paying the invoice each month makes me wince.

SnappyDragony · 01/02/2023 20:51

South East, I pay 35 for 5 hours. No talk about in increase...yet

Lavender2021 · 01/02/2023 20:51

Currently £67 8am till 6pm in the Midlands but haven't heard about this year's increase yet.

AnotherAppleThief · 01/02/2023 20:52

It's the upcoming minimum wage increase (rightly so) that will mean nursery budgets are hitting. All wages will need to go up, you can't have managers on near enough the same as newly qualified. I was on a forum earlier and one preschool was explaining her wage bill will rise by £38,000 from April.

MallowPink · 01/02/2023 20:52

£76 per day, Scotland

blackpinkinyourarea · 01/02/2023 20:52

The day rate at my DD's nursery is £55, but £250 a week as she is fulltime so theres a reduction. It seems to go up £5 a day twice a year, so we will probably be getting a letter soon :( still 8 months to go until the 30 funded hours..
In East Mids.

Littlebluedinosaur · 01/02/2023 20:54

£62

lady725516 · 01/02/2023 20:55

Ours was £50 a day in sept, went up to £60 in January :/

pigsinoodies · 01/02/2023 20:58

I'm surprised the increase is that low. Their electricity costs will have more than doubled, food costs up 16% and staffing costs up 10%.
