Hello!

So this is a weird one. My DD (18) came to me in a panic about something she's noticed on her back tooth. I will preface this by saying she does have a lot of health anxiety and so is really stressed out! I've helped her take some pictures and promised to ask on here so she can get some actual advice!

If anyone on here is a dentist or dental nurse, does this look like decay? Or just staining? (I have a lot of staining in my molars from coffee drinking so am trying to reassure her it may just be this)

Apologies for the gross photos i was trying my best not to giggle....

There's also a few taken with a mirror for a birds eye view (I think I may have found my calling in tooth photography) it is the very back lower molar

She is in no pain and was last at the dentist in October. I will call today and see if we can move her appointment forward but there's no guarantee

tia

Impossible to say as sometimes the only way you can spot decay on back teeth , particularly on people who brush well and use fluoride toothpaste , is by taking x rays.
when did she last have x rays (on people with good oral health it's normally around every 2 years) ?
On the face of it , from your photos, doesn't look like decay but photos can be deceiving g , appearence of decay is not always easy to see and some decay only shows upon x rays.

I can't remember on xrays tbh...

I dont think any of us have had them since before covid! I will make a note to ask next time (I'm due for a check up soon)

I'm not a dentist or dental nurse but I can't see anything at all! Apart from lovely looking teeth which I envy!

The other thing to say is it would be more suspicious if she had had fillings in other teeth previously or has suddenly started to eat or drink a lot of sweet things.. It certainly could be early decay , that does not need filling , or it could be a large hole which you can only diagnose on x rays .

possibly very early decay but as pp said needs an x ray to check and be absolutely sure. great pictures though!

Thank you all...no fillings yet but does have a sweet tooth.

Looks like she'll need to wait for xrays! Appointment is May so will see if there's any availability before (we are NHS so not likely haha)...more for my sanity than hers
