Send DC to school or not (not strike related)

I have had d&v since late Sunday night. Still feeling absolutely wiped out though stopped vomiting Monday early morning. Dc stayed home Monday, got a lift there and back yesterday. I was taking them today weds.

Dc2 has just been sick. Dc1 has not (yet).I'm single so will have to take both dc in the car to take 1 to school. Would you stay hone with both?

Dc1 was ill all last term and had an absence letter. Not that there was much I could do about that, if they're ill they're ill.

Hi OP. Sorry you're ill. If it was me, I'd take DC1 to school (or see about arranging a lift for them). They're not ill so I wouldn't keep them off, although I understand that logistically it would be hard for you having to take an ill child with you when you're not fully recovered yourself.

How old are they? Could you perhaps ask another parent to supervise your child going into school if they're not old enough to be left at the school gate to go in alone?

Hope you're all fully recovered soon.

Thank you, it was difficult getting a lift today as friend didn't want to catch the sickness so a family member travelled 25 miles to pick them up. I'll see how it goes in the morning. Dc1 is 7, I can park in the staff car park and let them go in from there. Dc2 still being sick but much less so now.

I would do everything I can to get the not-sick child to school.

OK I'll try. I wasn't sure if the consensus would be to keep him off to prevent spread.

That's great that a family member is able to help. I get what you're saying about preventing passing it on, but DC1 isn't ill so hopefully that won't be an issue (assuming they don't start being sick at school).
Feel better soon!

DC1 is 7, so no I wouldn't send in. I would tell school that I've had it, DC2 has now got it and I was keeping DC1 home for a day because we don't want to risk spreading it. If you think school would have an issue with this (mine absolutely would not) then you say DC1 isn't looking 100% or didn't want breakfast this morning so you're keeping home just in case.

They did phone me daily about dc2 when dc1 had covid and wasn't supposed to leave the house. I couldn't leave one at home e to take the other.

Give yourself a break! You're ill with a highly infectious condition which one of your dc has caught from you. The likelihood is that your other dc will also catch it. If you keep him home you mitigate the effect on his schoolmates and on yourself. One day absence, particularly on a strike day when there will be very little new learning, is worth the rest.

Thanks @WashAsDelicates typically our school is not affected by the strike. They both had rge day off Monday as I couldn't get them there (was in the throes of d & v)

This too.

I would take dc1 in.

Mittens1717 · 01/02/2023 07:57

I would keep both off, theres a high chance your other DC will catch it also and spread it round the school

Bemyclementine · 01/02/2023 08:24

I'm going to keep dc1 off. He's still in bed in any case which is unheard of , and I can't face getting dressed, him ready and driving 8 miles with I'll dc2.
