Baby is a quiet sleeper-should I be concerned?

All of my friends talk about how noisy their babies are, grunting and snoring and grumbling all night. DD is nearly 4 months and sleeps quietly for long stretches at night, anywhere from 5-7 hours. Aside from an occasional grunt when passing wind, or a little sniff between sleep cycles, she is utterly silent whilst sleeping! I always put my hand on her chest to make sure she’s okay!

She has no risks for SIDS, sleeps on her own firm bed, not overheated, is exclusively breastfed, no smoking in the home, loads of tummy time. But I have heard all of that grunting and restless sleep and shorter sleeps help protect against SIDS, so have been worried about her. Should I be waking her up? She seems happy in the daytime and nurses well, seems to be meeting all of her milestones.

My ds was exactly the same as this until he turned 1, he used to sleep all night flat in his back not making a sound or moving around at all it would scare me so much I was never able to sleep but I wouldn’t recommend wakening as that’s what I did all the time and now I’ve got a 2 year old who never sleeps well anymore!

@a2304 thank you, that’s reassuring. I’m usually just sat watching her until I fall asleep 🫣

Nah. My daughter was the same. We called her unicorn for a while because she slept 10pm to 5am 90% of the time from 8 weeks old.

She went into her own room at 4 month because we were waking her up by going to bed / waking in the morning.

She was EBF as well.

Thank you. Yes, I was posting here in the early days because she was up every hour or two and I was knackered! Now she seems to have sorted her sleep herself and sleeps from 7p-2am, wakes for a feed and right back down until 6. I don’t know when I’ll stop worrying 🤔

Never lol, there's always something to worry about with our children.

I have three kids and none of them ever sounded "like a farmyard" or any of the things people say about newborn babies.

I think there is just a variance in what is normal and that is OK.

@BertieBotts thankyou, that’s reassuring . Yes, all of my friends say they can’t sleep in the same room because baby is up all night grunting!
