I need help to learn to do my hair nicely

I have weird hair. It's thick but fine, goes frizzy easily and also annoys me so I usually shove it up into a bun.

I never really feel happy with how I look. I feel unkempt and need to get tidied up.

How can I learn to blow dry it nicely? What magic tips are there?

Do you section it off so that you are only blow during one area at a time?

Do you have a good hair dryer?

I have a Dyson hairdryer and it dries my hair in half the time ms I have bought lots of different ones over the years!

You can swatch on YouTube for tutorials and look for someone who has similar hair to yours.

Search not swatch

Use the concentrator nozzle on the dryer, it does make a difference. Hair straighteners might help too.

Buy the ghd glide. My hair is the same as yours but means styling it takes about 15 mins instead of an hour!

The Dyson Air Wrap is magical, use the blow drying attachments along with a good blow drying product/cream and you can achieve a very professional looking result.

What sort of products help?

Thank you, I am looking at all of these.

This product is amazing! I got it for Christmas and it dries my hair so beautifully with zero effort.

And I am absolutely USELESS at hair. Stick it in a bun and forget about it was my style until recently. Now I'm all swishy and fancy.

John Frieda Frizz Ease is a great range, especially the serum. Put plenty on before blow drying (or using the blow dry brush PP posted)

Verbena87 · 30/01/2023 20:06

@Thisisnotalemon can you use it to make curls?

lunylovegood · 30/01/2023 20:07

Highly recommend using a serum/leave in for frizz, the Elvive Miracle Oil is fantastic, a little goes a long way.
I've recently really enjoyed doing the sock curl thing with my dressing gown cord, plenty of easy tutorials online, and you just sleep with it and then wake up with lovely voluminous curls!
I second using a revlon blow dry brush, then do the sock curls and it leaves it lovely for a few days!

I have hair that sounds similar to yours; I blow dry to about 85% with a hairbrush (even tho I’m fairly crap) and do the last 15% with babyliss big hair and it’s lovely for about three days. I only wash my hair twice a week (batiste) so it’s worth spending ten mins to get it looking nice. Sometimes twist around for an hour after so it goes a bit wavy. Hope it works out for you; hairs importance is underrated (as the sister of someone who had amazing hair while mine was a frizzy mess) x

Kerastase shampoos and conditioners are fab, bit expensive but last ages cause you only need a small amount. Have a look at the different types to see what will suit your hair.
A decent hairdryer (parlux, ghd or Dyson) and a good round barrel hairbrush. Rough dry your hair or let it dry naturally til it's like 70% dry. Then blowdry it section by section. Clip most of it up apart from one section and work on that one- exactly as the hairdresser does, put the nozzle of the hairdryer directly to your hair on the brush. Go over it a few times til it's smooth and dry. Keep the hairdryer moving, don't just hold it on a section of hair.
Repeat all over! It'll feel slow and tedious at first but you'll get faster. Makes the world of difference.

difficultlemons · 30/01/2023 20:28

If it's frizzy and difficult to tame, could it be that you have wavy hair op?
In this case then it can be managed differently (for example, look up mere age on instagram) to bring out your natural waves/curls.

difficultlemons · 30/01/2023 20:29

Merwave that was meant to say sorry!

Coolheadedbird · 30/01/2023 20:32

Best option is to blow dry quickly but we’ll. Then partition half of it into bunches and straighten, with a gentle curl at end. A little hairspray keeps it neat. May need to stesuggren a little another day or may not. Good luck. Best shampoo is Coconut 🥥 blue pack of Ultimate Essentials. So cheap but so hydrating.

badhairdaysend · 30/01/2023 20:34

I think it probably is wavy. It will never hold a curl though. I also admit that I just blast it all with my cheap £19.99 hairdryer.

I don't know ow. it's very big. Maybe loose waves.

TheHauntedPencilCase · 31/01/2023 08:07

Is your hair straight but frizzy or wavy/curly? I gave up on straight sleek hair after realising that the products (so many products) and appliances just gave me slightly less frizz and as only 1 hairdresser ever achieved blow drying my hair straight I reverted to curly and haven't looked back.

olympicsrock · 31/01/2023 08:10

Could you post us a picture maybe with face redacted?
