Woman has children and life changes and house goes to shit shocker!
Thank god for that. Relax everyone. If she can't keep her house tidy, no-one else can either. 😂

It's all about the 💰

“I have kind of given up on that, in a good way for me,” she said. “Now I realise what is important to me is enjoying spending time with my children at home.”

I think that's lovely.

This cracked me up - love your post op

It is lovely, I quite agree. And lovely for anyone who's been struggling to meet her standards and thinking of themselves as failing in some way. Not judging Ms Kondo, just the idea that we need any cults of perfectionism, especially for women.

Thank you. I love your name and it seems very pertinent to the sentiments of the thread. Miss Haversham gave up cleaning!

Thank you! I do actually have an old wedding dress in a cupboard which needs sorting out but at least I’m not wearing itGrin

I bet her version of untidy is tidier than my version of tidy though 😀. I read her book and decluttered it was really useful and fun, but kind of hard to keep it pristine. I still fold my clothes up her way though!

idonotmind · 30/01/2023 14:51

She should see my house. I could write her book far better

I agree.
If her house was minimal mess and no clutter already I imagine her ' slobbing it' is a lot tidier than any of us can imagine.
And when she says she's given up she's obviously not filled her house up with unwanted clutter, she's just realised that with three children there's more important things to focus on

Spring23 · 30/01/2023 14:55

Isn't she just flogging a new book on spending your time on what makes you happiest? I bet her house is still depressingly tidy and clean..

heldinadream · 30/01/2023 14:58

@shard5 but I bet her children manage to migrate crap into her house, or they will soon, right?

I wonder if she still unpacks her handbag every evening and thanks every item for its service. I'd have made a terrible Japanese person. I don't think being even vaguely slobbish is tolerated in Japanese culture.

I've actually been to Japan and loved it, but you're quite right, my DH got reprimanded for leaning on a cafe table with his jeans. They were horrified at the lower body contact with an eating surface, big no no. Very meticulous tidy and clean culture. Lovely place, really amazing but nothing like the west nor the rest of the east, very unique.
Two Miss Havishams attracted to this thread! 😂

Maybe she should have taken the fact people have children into consideration the first time.

CrazyBiscuits · 30/01/2023 22:35

Being a bit cynical here but I reckon she's admitted this before she was outed by someone. All of those people who bought her book and struggled to keep up with her systems, partly because they had children, must be gutted. All of those people who did her consultancy classes who she wouldn't pass until they'd completed their own decluttering first, to her standards. What a letdown. Still, she's made her millions now so she won't care.

BogRollBOGOF · 30/01/2023 22:46

The couple of things she taught me were the vertical folding which does work more effectively, and being able to thank redundant items and let them go. I'm not minimalist (nor want to be) and am not naturally tidy, but those two things have helped.

Two children is chaotic enough. I'm glad I stopped before three! I'm sure her untidy with three is significantly more orderly than I've ever pulled off!
