I did loads of research weighing out the pros and cons. Waitress to see if I could cope with the symptoms of peri. Decided to at least try it to see if it helped. Hated it, felt nauseous, sluggish and sleepy and had painful breasts. Came of it and so far coping ok. I’m concentrating on lifestyle…exercise, eating well, getting outdoors etc.

I was on HRT for a year. Went to the breast clinic in November, breast tissue was very dense so couldn't get clear pictures. Long story short, I have breast cancer that is oestrogen positive. The consultant made me stop taking HRT from first day I saw him. He said the breast density had been caused by HRT and the cancer was being fed by it. It's definitely something to bear in mind, even though it hadn't caused the cancer.

@Whatmarbles as a fellow migraine suffer (under control through daily preventatives) may I ask why you were told it wasn’t suitable?
(obviously I know the pill isn’t, but I don’t know enough about HRT)

I didn't think my migraines were affected by hormones but they increased in frequency during peri, despite being on preventatives.
The neurologist said that I wouldn't be a candidate for HRT as they can cause headaches and prescribed Frovatriptan to get me through the menopause, take them on first day of period for 7 days. He assured me my migraines would disappear after the menopause and I could be weaned off the preventative.
I would rather deal with menopause than endure migraines for any longer.

I just had to do something. I started off feeling really down and I started on a low oestrogen pill. But 3 months down the line I had brain fog, I was irritable, I would wake 3 times a night soaking and stripping all my bed linen and I cried. I was miserable and my joints hurt. then went onto gel and capsule and it saved me. In 2 weeks!

I feel as well now as I was before menopause kicked in.

This is the sort of thing that makes me not want to take HRT. I'm sorry you find yourself on the breast cancer journey.

I put up with Hot flushes, joint pain and insomnia... but when the 10-day migraines kicked in I couldn't cope. HRT sorted it all out.

@lifeinthehills it was a panel session and the specialist was Dr Anees Chagpar from Yale University Medicine.
