Manager trouble

NC

I work in an environment with lots of different line managers, my non direct line manager in the same department has asked me and my team to do something a few times this week and we've been to busy to do it. She asked again yesterday and I said maybe if we get a chance we could have a look. Five hours later we'd still not looked and I said no, was spoken to in the office and was told not to let it happen again or there will be problems 🙄

Can we ignore this Manager as they're not our Manager and are quite new with the company? We've all worked there longer with more experience.

Don't want to get in trouble but also don't eat ghe extra work, our team usually does this work though.

If you usually do the work, why isn't it being done now? You probably need to speak to your direct line manager.

We usually do it but we've been busy

So who would pick it up otherwise? Why aren't you making time for it if its your task to do?

Why don't you just say you don't have capacity and they'll need to speak to your line manager to see if there's anything that can be delayed to accommodate this work?

You shouldn't say you'll see what you can do if you're just going to wait almost a whole work day to say it can't be done.

Thats employee trouble, not manager trouble.

Does your team do this task as a favour or is part of your role? If its a favour to help out then other manager should go through your manager and they should say if the team has capacity and delegate the work. If it's an expected part of your role then you need to speak to your manager about how to deal with your other duties if the workload is too much.
