Eurgh, naproxen 🤢

I've been struggling with lower back pain for months now. Paracetamol and ibuprofen is no longer touching it so the gp prescribed naproxen along with omneprazole. I took the first one yesterday and the first 6 hours were great, but then when it started to wear off I felt horrendous! Nausea, cold sweats, anxiety, racing heart, shivers, and terrible indigestion. I googled the side effects and it seems these are quite common along with some scarier ones like stomach ulcers and heart problems. Annoyingly, it worked brilliantly for my back but I'm not sure it's worth it for the side effects.

Ring the doctors and they will prescribe something else. I take naproxen now but was originally taking something else that effected my breathing. Its not a case of naproxen or nothing.

@Dancingtumbleweed Breathing problems! I think the anxiety of that might finish me off. I think I'll struggle through with Nurofen amd paracetamol. I'm a single mum working full time with no support so can't afford to be out of action even for a night.

I can't take it either OP, the indigestion feeling was horrid! It's a pity because it works really well but the side effects are shit! Hopefully your doctor can prescribe something else.

I've been on Naproxen twice a day for months and have had no side effects at all but to be honest they don't do a lot for my back pain. I was also prescribed co-codamol (did nothing), Tramadol (did nothing) and Amitriptyline (turned me into a zombie and gave me raging anxiety!) so I just stuck with the Naproxen which takes the edge off at least.

Have you heard about KT taping? I never suffered with back pain up until 18 months ago, and trying to get Naproxen off our G.P. was difficult. I ended bringing some back from America where you can buy it off the shelf.
I didn't want to to keep taking tablets all the time, so looked up KT on YouTube and found tutorials on how to tape for back pain and it made such difference.
Once the initial pain wasn't as bad, I started Pilates and now I only get the occasional twinge which is a vast improvement on hardly being able to straighten up.

@Shunkleisshiny Oh wow, thanks for the recommendation! Do you need to buy the original KT tape or do the generic amazon ones work? I hate taking pills also and they always seem to cause other problems.

We buy the Proworks make, it's half price of the KT brand and I've used both and for me there is no difference.

I'd wear mine at least a week when my back was really painful, showered every night and it stayed put.
( It does get a little damp obviously, but soon dried out)

Follow the tutorial to the letter and hopefully it will give you relief, there is nothing more draining than constant pain.

Good Luck!

Just back from hospital. Rushed in an ambulance. Naproxen 500mg twice a day for back fracture. I'm tiny. Yesterday my BP up to 198, pain in my arm, chest pain and numbness down I side. Felt confused. After reading the leaflet and Dr Google these are the symptoms to stop taking immediately. Seeing GP tomorrow but read the leaflet. Back pain no more but I would rather suffer. Ibuprofen it is . I didn't realise different meds could do such frightening things. Please read the leaflet and any warning signs stop. Please learn from my mistakes .
